Gomez was a greater fighter. Greatness wise its closer, but still Gomez.

Hamed had the purer, one-punch knockout power of the pair, just about. In terms of who was the better all-rounder, I'd go with Gomez. Could really put combinations together when he wanted to, worked the high-low, good movement at the waist, could spin an opponent etc. People remember he devastating KO ratio and his ferocity, but he could really box on top of that (had one hell of an amateur pedigree, too).

As brilliant as Hamed was, I don't think there's a win on his record anywhere near as impressive as Gomez's demolition of Zarate, albeit Gomez's behaviour in that fight was disgraceful. Hamed never got absolutely trounced in to the ground the way Gomez did against Sal...But he was facing the greatest Featherweight since Pep and Saddler, who was having arguably the best night of his life. Both Gomez and Hamed were brought back down to earth and had their auras shattered by Sanchez and Barrera respectively - but the difference is, Gomez at least came back to rack up a few more meritorious results and achievements afterwards, despite having a piece of his soul taken (the classic win over Pintor, titles at 126 and 130 etc.), whereas Hamed laboured to one more unimpressive win over a gatekeeper before disappearing in to oblivion after being humbled by Barrera.

History has been kinder to Gomez, and quite rightly, too.

Hammad was a joke of a fighter. Big punch yes but nothing else. Gomez was the complete package.

I have no doubt Gomez wins at 122 and was better at that weight. At 126, not so sure.

Reconsidering...Gomez was superior in both counts.

Prime Gomez would take apart Hamed even faster than Berrera did. Gomez before he fell in love with his KO power was one of the most gifted fighters I've seen ( And Iv'e seen damn near everyone up to the last 5-10yrs) Hamed was very unconventional, and came from unexpected angles, but once a good fighter figured him out, he was pretty easy to time. Kelly had him beat, but he seemed to age during the fight and the prior wars seemed to catch up to him. Berrera schooled Hamed and the fight wasn't close . Gomez in his prime was a level or two above Barrera and was levels better than Hamed prime vs prime.

It would take a sharpshooter like Sanchez to beat prime Gomez (as he did). Hammad did not have the skill set. He was in fact a technical awkward mess with a KO punch.
