Was it Duran or Leonard? They were the only two Hagler world title challengers to hear the final bel, was it Hearns because of the first round v Hagler, was it Vito A.? Or someone else?
Are you asking who is greater, or who is the better h2h opponent the night they fought Hagler? Because those are very different. Leonard vs. Durán in terms of their ATG placement has been done to death. If you mean "was the Leonard that fought Hagler or the Durán that fought Hagler a better p4p fighter" that's a bit more unusual and interesting.
Duran was the greatest fighter Hagler faced, though it could be argued Roberto was both past it and well out if his realm at the time.
Duran was actually winning after 12 rounds. Hearns was the best he faced though, Hearns or Briscoe. In the ring on the nights
Briscoe was just a predictable robot Duran was too far gone a far better opponent was Roldan: strong powerful power in both hands hard to hit limitless stamina and hard to deal with, hard to form a defense and retaliate with counters All around best opponent: Roldan
John is my runner up well trained and conditioned MAYBE as hard a hitter as Hart except had power in BOTH hands and had better stamina young and undefeated
Juan Domingo Roldan gave the peak Marvin a very hairy evening and was arguably fouled out of the fight.
I think that the best that Marvelous Marvin Hagler had ever fought was Vito Antuofermo on Nov 30 1979. Vito stood and fought him, was very tenacious, using the same grit that had won him the title from Hugo Corro on June 30 1979 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The fight though controversial was tough, both displayed the wage of war on their faces. The rematch in 1981 was all Hagler without a doubt.
Truer words, but I have never been one to argue against an official decision rendered by a boxing official, even against any favorite fighter of mine, that would be considered poor sportsmanship. I am not a licensed boxing official, just a fan of the sport, my opinion will not matter on the boxers record, the official verdict will.
