Which defensive wizards do you think was the most frustrating for a fighter to deal with?
And how would you compare all 3 of their defensive techniques? They were all so good at avoiding punches but they used their own different styles to be effective.

I would say Locche cause his style was more built around defense than the other two.

Locche. I've just never seen anyone like him in his ability to slip punches.
Willie (and here I'm limited to having only seen Pep's title fights) used his amazing footwork to keep opponents off balance and move out of range after delivering his own shots, but I've seen him tagged when a fighter caught him moving in. Locche seemed able to avoid even thos punches

Whitaker seemed better at deflecting punches rather than avoiding them entirely, then making his opponent pay with brilliant counterattacks.

I don't know who might be the best defensive fighter of this group, but Locche was certainly the hardest to hit, which was the question.

The answer is Locche..and he was more elusive (but not by much) than Pep and Pea for a lot more extensive time than them and frankly, I think he was amazing....I too have never seen anyone as hard to tag, and so purely defensive as Locche.

I think Pea was better OFFENSIVELY than the other two, BTW,..but Locche was and still is in a class by hinself defensively.

Interestingly many posts on the greatest defensive boxers include only Pep and Pea. I have a hard time differing Locche and Pea at their very best here, having to make a choice it goes to Locche by a hair and because he did it for a longer time. Willy used his legs defensively in a league all his own but as was said in a prior post here was hit more coming in then the other two.

    All 3 could be hit

Loche - Ortiz supposedly won that fight, Cervantes beat him the second time

Whitaker - Hurtado, Mcgirt and Roger Mayweather had a fair bit of success

Pep - Saddler based him up and Angott outboxed him

Still I'd go with Whitaker, more defensively complete, better reactions and overall not as easily beat as the other 2

Pep was not at his best for Saddler but in one fight he totally outclassed him Pep already had 150 fights and a plane crash, LOCCHE was a great defensive fighter especially being so short and having a short reach, he was remarkable....Pea was very good but a much shorter career than the other 2 and I would rate him last of these 3

LOcche, but it came at a price as far as integration of defensive and offensive skills go.

btw i'm not too sure "the clutch" really beat Pep by outboxing him per se.Could be though.

Gee PowerPuncher..think maybe you could cut Locche a little slack here, since it was his 110th fight and near the end of his career? Pretty damned good run I'd say..and yes, technically they could all "be hit"..what exactly are you saying here?

Sammy the Clutch beat Pep by basically outhustling him..essentially outsmarting him. Quite an achievement on behalf of Angott's negative skillset.

I'd go with Pea to win h2h with Locche, but with the narrow question of "hardest to hit" I still go with Locche. I assume by "better reaction" you mean his counterattack, to which I might agree, but as far as speed of reaction, and reacting to avoid a punch, Locche was almost magical. I just finished watching the Locche-Fuji fight, and I don't think I've ever seen better anticipation and reaction by any fighter ever.

I'd love to see a fighter come along with the defensive skills of Pep, Locche and Whitaker but with the attacking skills of a Hearns or Marciano. The 2 sets of skills are totally opposed to each other and have IMO never been seen in the 1 fighter

Locche. Ya couldnt hit him with a handful of rice when he was on form. His ability to slip punches up close is an art of its own
