Jeff Lacy. He was a champion who had defended a few times. He went to Wales to fight one of the greatest fighters of our generation and got the **** kicked out of him, but at least he was trying in the fight. Pavlik beat Taylor twice, and then defended against Gary "the soothing" Lockett, not much of a defense, and then went and got schooled by Hopkins at a weight he shouldnt of been fighting at. Pavlik will come back stronger though imo.
Yeah Lacy was the best thing to arrive in the UK, untill he got his ass handed to him and sent home, then everyone just disregarded him, typical.
32-11 to Pavlik!!!!! Bull**** Lacy was rated much higher going into the Calzaghe fight, alot were saying he was going to destroy Calzaghe in under 6 rounds
Pavlik of course. Even at his best people knew what they were getting with Lacy. A very exciting, but highly flawed fighter.
No serious boxing writers compared Lacy to Tyson either; some might have said he looked a little like him, thats it.
a lot of this is down to the fact that a lot of american fight fans had never seen calzaghe fight so.... i haven't seen calzaghe but i've seen lacy knock out a string of fighters = OMGZ LACY KO1!!!!11111
Lacey was by far the most hyped out of the two he was knocking people out for fun, until he was taken apart by Calzaghe. He was a good fighter but Calzaghe had his number and he's never been the same since. The hype with Pavlik only really took off in a big way after the first Taylor fight. If Taylor had of finished him off after he knocked him down, like he should of done. Then I don't think he would be regarded all that highly. I think he's a very ordinary fighter but has great knock out ability which makes him good to watch up to a certain level. A fight with Abrahams or Kessler would be great but against your more technical fighters like Hopkins, Calzaghe and even Winky Wright (if he can get back to his best) he will struggle. But the power gives him a chance, just ask Taylor.
This is a flawed question - Pavlik inexplicably found himself in p4p top 10, which Lacy never was, however - as pointed out, Lacy was considered near indestructible, whereas with Pavlik there was a feeling he could be beaten, and beaten badly. I voted for Pavlik due to the p4p farce, but the Lacy hype was RIDICULOUS
man this is a great pic...but in ricky's defense everybody gets schooled when they get in their witht the professor
because lacy was killing old guys while KP was brutalizing prime miranda and taylor...who said KP could be beat badly....pull that thread up...he was a 4-1 favorite
it appears people are miss-reading the question. Lacy WAS regarded higher, although it was pretty close since so many though Pavlik could compete 2 weight classes up without a doubt.
