There was a guy on this board a month or so ago, NYSouthpaw maybe, who's doing a documentary on Jewish fighters of the past and has alottta information on Herbie, who's still living I think. My father fought Herbie in the Garden on 2-13-48, a real battle from the write ups I have on it. Whether Jake ducked him I just don't know. This content is protected
I believe he became a boxing REF and Judge....I heard he was tough but I dont know if he was in Jakes league
i ask because i read it on the net and was just wondering if it was true. ive also read or heard lamotta ducked burley.
Yeah, heard that too about Burley. But of course Jake wasn't the only one. I was just curious about your interest in Kronowitz, since he's a little on the obscure side.
try this and youll see it says lamotta turned him down after watching the green fight.(www.trufanboxing.com/ring_8_roll_call.htm)
Wouldn't shock me if he did. But I think alotta times, especially for earners like LaMotta, it wasn't so much why not take a fight as it was why should I? What do I have to gain or lose? How does this guy's style match-up with mine? I've never seen Herbie on film...(if anybody has his fight in the Garden with my old man, I will pay), but from what I've read about him he could swat. Could be Jake just thought, 'who needs it?' But I think that went on alot, maybe even more back in those days, since there was so much competition to choose from.
