I love how when I bring up the fact that Naseem Hamed is one of the most overrated fighters in boxing history, it turns into "oh AlisJab is a ******, AlisJab doesn't know boxing, whaaaaaa whaaaaaa whaaaaaaa whaaaaaaa...."

See, here's the difference between me and other users on this message board, and users you may have had from the past. I'm not AFRAID to tell the truth about a Naseem Hamed, Mike Tyson, or Roy Jones, and I already KNOW it's gonna be unpopular for fanboys to ****ing read it. In the UK Hamed was great, when he came to the States, he left with egg all over his face....

    He lost one fight.

Fans like you seem to go from the extreme to another, I mean, is the way you are undervaluing his career, anymore strange than the die hards who overrated him?

Now, you know that he was the type of fighter when he took the path with the most resistance, rather than the path of least resistance in the past, as soon as he realized that path ended in a dark tunnel with a train coming at him, he got the hell out of the sport, come on man you know this, please don't give me that "1 loss", there have been dozens of undefeated fighters who were/are overrated.

Or!!!, you could say he eventually lost because! he took the path of most resistance?

The fact that he retired does not look good, but im pretty sure he could of continued his career, stayed in the UK, raped fans of hard earned PPV money and avoided the better fighters, only he didn't, which might suggest that his heart was not in the sport anymore, not to say that is a viable excuse for why he lost to MAB, I dont think it is, he lost to MAB because MAB was a greater fighter.

I agree with every word you said. I remember recording this knockouts special on Comcast that featured all of these great knockouts in boxing (none of the main American fighters were in it, it was mostly UK fighters), and they were showing all of Hamed's KO's and I was thinking WOW damn this guy is great but had never really heard of the guys he was KO'ing and they looked pathetic as opponents. That was my first exposure to him, so when he came to the states and was fighting on US TV, I was just like, YES, this guy is gonna wreck shop. When I saw the knockouts I noticed how none of these guys fought back and his boxing technique was very loose and sloppy. Sure enough he met up with MAB who had a nice tight professional style, and to me he was exposed for the overrated fighter he was. He was damn exciting though against those cans and he beat a few marginal quality opponents.... but never justified the hype he received and I noticed a similar path that Khan just might be on.

too early to say. Khan does seems like a hype job and way too highly rated for a guy not to far removed from ketting ko'd in the 1st round by a journeyman.

that said, under Roach, Khan was impressive outboxing Paulie Malignaggi and as long as he tightens his defense and can avoid flush punches, he could be atop the 140 division.

Naseem was incredible until he ran into legend and future hall of famer Marco Antonio Barrera. He had a great career and incredible abilities.

So says the fanboy with "RJJ4Life" as a screen name.

Boxing 4 life, screw worshiping cherry pickers.

You guys don't think Khan is cherry picking? He most certainly is. Freddie Roach rarely signs off on his fighters entering the ring against someone who has a 50/50 or better shot of beating them.

Jeff Lacy came through the American Boxing circuit and made it to the top, well, he put himself in contention to win a title anyway, I dont see what it has to do with "coming to America", Hamed just met a great fighter who was better than him, also, those marginal quality opponents he was beating allowed him to unify the titles, cant of been that bad?

Paul Ingle knocked Junior Jones out, Jones beat Orlando Canizlaez and Barrera 2x. Hamed also beat solid guys like McCullough, Kelly, Vasquez, Johnson, Bungu, Molina.

Hamed resume was very good, solid, just that he did not fore-fill the hype surrounding him, much of which was cultivated by himself and his KO's, does that qualify him as overrated? maybe then, but now? if anything you would of thought the hate would of died down and people would be able to put some perspective into how his career played out? im from the school of thought that thinks he is underrated because he is hated and considered overrated because of that.

Well we are allowed to respectfully disagree on that point. For me he was overrated due to many factors including the holes in his boxing style.

You articulate your thoughts very well and I was curious where you think Khan will end up, will his career end in a similar fashion to Hamed when you look in your crystal ball? For me I don't think it will with Roach guiding him and signing off on the match-making. Hamed didn't have a Roach to tighten up his technical flaws, Khan does. That being said, I'm gonna head out for the day and I'll check back for your answer later.

Yeah no problem, you seem like a good guy to me. :thumbsup

Whats weird, is I usually spend time trying to set people straight on how the excuses Hamed's supporters come up with are not reflective of why! he lost to MAB

He did have a lot of holes technically, which might of become more apparent as he moved up because he fell in love with his power, but must also be put down to the step up in quality of opponent, in truth, both factors probably contributed.

Awful thread. Hamed is rated just fine, is not a hero in the UK and blatantly did not have a glass jaw. Never stopped, infact never close to being stopped. What are you on about?

it's way too early for this anyway. let's give it a few years and see what khan can achieve. there's no doubt freddy roach is a good thing for him...so let's see.
