    My contribution, Herbie Hide.

5 times against Joseph Chingangu in their first fight, 7 times against Riddick Bowe, 2 times against Vitali Klitschko.

I'm sure his ass touched the canvas a few other times throughout his career, but that makes for a total of 14 knockdowns.

I know Wladimir Klitschko, Amir Khan, and Floyd Patterson racked up a lot of knockdowns as well, though I don't know off the top of my head. Anyone willing to tally those up, feel free to do so.

We're all already aware of the Joe Jeanette snippits that I'm sure someone got very excited at the thought of posting before reading this :verysad

DeMarcus Corley. In the Matthysse fight alone he climbed off the canvas nine times (officially, plus a couple of uncredited knockdowns/borderline calls if memory serves)

Knockdowns per fight, I am guessing Joe Grimm maybe the answer.

Of the more modern very good or better fighters, as mentioned, Floyd Patterson maybe up there.

Langford was down 22 times by my count , but like Jeannette was very hard to keep there. I doubt anyone kissed the canvas more often than Joe Grimm

Patterson was knocked down 21 or 22 times as champion.
    I'm sure that's a record.

Somebody from the bareknuckle period, probably. They fell to avoid punishment and restart the rounds. Just pick a guy with a lot of fights and he's probably near the top.

Could be someone like Simmie Black, who was ko'd 98 times! A huge amount of knockdowns must have been involved, but not a single one is listed on BoxRec... so it's impossible to say, really.

Frankie Hines, with 78 ko defeats, could also be a candidate... but again, not a word about any knockdowns.

If we're talking world champs, I think Archie Moore might take it with approx. 40 knockdowns scored against him.

Also Ezzard Charles is up there with more than 30.

Joe Louis is up there and he's arguably the greatest HW of all time, so that goes to show what the worth of being knocked down alot is.

No, he isn't. WTF are you talking about? He was dropped a handful of times, but "up there" with the most knockdowns ever suffered by a pro boxer? GTFOH.

Even among champions - hell, even narrowing it down to HW champions - I doubt he is 'up there'. (maybe top fifteen? :conf Too lazy to make a big project of it, but there is no way he can be among the most-dropped, that's silly...)

I'll tell you wtf I'm talking about.

For HW Champions, he is certainly up there.

    2: Schemling I
    1: Braddock
    1: Galento
    1: Buddy Baer
    2: Walcott I
    1: Walcott II
    2: Maricano

total: 10 knockdowns, assuming I didn't miss any.

Wlad and Frazier has been down 10 times as well. Charles was dropped about 11 times as a HW, most after the Marciano fight.

    A limited rough sampling:

    Walcott about 8-9 times
    Tyson down 6 times
    Holyfield down 6 times
    Ingo down 5 times
    Holmes down 5 times
Max Baer down about 4 times
    Ali down 4 times
    Foreman down 4 times
    Liston down 2 times
    Lewis down 2 times
    Marciano down 2 times

Surely, I missed a couple. So yeah Louis is up there with the double digit knockdown club.

Patterson and Carnera obviously have the most of any modern HW Champions by a good margin, like 15-20? To be fair, 7 of Patterson's knockdows came against Ingo in a single fight. And at least 10 of Primo's came against Max Baer in the same fight. Those abnormalties pushing them so far ahead of the pack.

Tom Sharkey strange to relate, was knocked down a lot for an elite heavyweight.
