Who was leading before the DQ in the 1st fight: Jones or Griffin?

Jones had a way of countering so well with his speed that he would make other fighters punch outputs decrease hugely. Griffin did that to Jones at stages of their fight. While not exceptionally quick, he had a deceptive reach(actually used a good jab on Roy), very unorthodox, yet accurate punches, and he placed them very well. Simply using head movement or foot movement wasn't enough to escape a lot of them for Jones.

Griffin was also able to counter Jones at times, because he didn't rely on catching Jones when he was in close(Jones was too fast for that), he rather relied on being within range, so when Jones would throw a shot, he'd counter at the point where Jones originally stood, so Jones wouldn't be able to escape his reach.

Very unorthodox, but slick style. Makes you wonder how, in these mythical P4P H2H matchups, Jones would do against guys like Whitaker, Benitez, etc.

Any chance that Jones was just keeping Griffin in the fight just to make it interesting for the fans? I mean he was getting rediculed at the time for not fighting high caliber opponents. Then he stopped ****ing around for the second fight... Is that way off or a possibility? Just a thought!

    No.

Griffin's style definitely did give Jones trouble, no way Jones was expecting half of those shots that landed, and was visibly frustrated at times. In the 2nd fight, not only was Jones fully motivated, but Griffin no longer had Eddie Futch(one of the greatest trainers of all time and the mastermind behind the first fight) in his corner.

hmm, i dont know about that, but i still cant argue your points.
But I still dont think it was as close as you thought. I had Jones up by a good 2-3 rounds if I remember.

That seems pretty biased. Jones is my 2nd favorite fighter of all time, and I was looking at the fight from his point of view, and still scored it that close. Griffin no question presented a lot of problems, which Jones started to handle late when he adapted.

It was even fight up to the 9th, but the KD that lead to the DQ changed everything. If the ref didn't stop the fight, the KD would've given a 2 points lead to Jones, so at the time of the stoppage, Jones was ahead. But still it's an interesting stoppage, as Jones was landing a fast combo, and when Griffins knees touched the canvas - but he wasn't layed out! - the referee made no attempt to step in and send Jones to a neutral corner... WTF?

Illegal punch? Yes! But mistake of the ref not stepping in for count? Yes!

Simply put: if that's a DQ, then Pacquiao-Marquez 1 (3rd KD) is a DQ as well. See it for yourself.
