Around the world definitely Michael Jackson. Not everyone is into sports.

Did people faint when they saw Mike Tyson in the stadiums?

Having said that, Tyson along with Ali is the most famous boxer of all time.

He is extremely famous but I'm not sure. Boxing is not the most popular sport in the world.

People like Maradona, Pele, Messi, Ronaldo are just as famous if not more throughout the world.

Soccer is not popular in America.....

At his peak, Tyson's fame (or infamy) was enormous.

Watch footage of when he came to England in 2000.....he was national news 24/7 and stopped traffic. He was mobbed everywhere he went. The footage is on Youtube. It was insane.

North America is the only region where it is not that popular.

Watch Diego Maradona go back to Naples 20 years after his peak, it was the same level of hysteria if not more.

He was the Mike Tyson of football. An absolute genius and the best player of his era (1980s).

His private life was just as crazy as Tyson's, drug addiction, links to the mafia, dalliances with prostitutes, illegitimate children, using dirty tactics during matches.

Both he and Tyson although considered amongst the best in their field could have achieved even more if they had better discipline off the field/ring.

Maybe if you put Ali instead of Tyson you'd see how popular boxing was...

I would say Tyson is just as famous as Ali. His boxing style was also more crowd friendly.

Ali was plenty hated at his peak too, especially after refusing to go to vietnam. However that was forgotten about in time. No one will forget the **** conviction and ear biting.
