A discussion going on about this over in the Brit Forum. I saw both these fights, but didn't see much of BHOP or Zoo previously.

For those of you who know more about these fighters, who had declined the most?

And was KT really P4P #3 when he fought Hatton?

 Neither was "past it", stop trying to discredit Hatton and Calzaghe, if you don't like em, just say so.

  3. It's true neither was past it, Hopkins for example changed from a stalker into an opportunist as he got older, being more coy, defensive & employing his experience better and I just it when Hopkins 'fans' overlook this because it shows how little they've actually watched him.

Tszyu was closer to his prime than Hopkins.

I'm a big Calzaghe fan. Just asking for opinions from people who know more about these 2 fighters than me.

Perhaps I should have worded it - Who had declined more from their peak.

I think that I saw Kosta tzyu age right in front of my eyes. Bernard had already aged and adjusted. RJJ has aged and adjusted I believe Calzaghe has as well. Bernard is about done the only thing keeping him going is his brain. Calzaghe has a few more years left and he will really have to adjust or quit. I think that Calzaghe will be done before 38 because of his style. If he had more power he could continue but that is it. They cannot fight forever. The heavyweights can last a little longer Vlad may be able to fight past 38 if he wants to. Vitali I donot know how much of a toll the kickboxing has had on his body, he may be fixed. But I think he will fight Peter and maybe twice more and he is done (that is if he beats Peter) How old is Hatton? the way he fights he better makes some big money fast. Open a pub or something retire and be happy.

its got alot to do with the style each fighter fought with. Tszyu for instance was a destroyer and Hopkins earlyecareer was a brilliant in-fighter/ stalker who turned at about age 36-37 to be a more Defencive wiz.

Tszyu was great against Hatton he just couldnt deal with what was in front of him that night.

and Hopkins was terrific against Calzaghe...however, he WAS 43 years old,and was ONLY still a top fighter because of his style change. had Hopkins and Calzaghe and Hopkins fought when both were 35-36 ish it would have been a much differant fight(not saying anything about who wins blah blah blah its all speculation...remember...Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson:deal )

in my oppinion Hopkins was by far the more far gone of the two. the only thing that kept him compedative was quite simply his mind. his body has slowed down an awfull lot in the past 5-6 years.

I have to be honest, Hopkins was further removed from his prime state. It is also the case that Hopkins stylistically can be further removed from his prime, and still be a tougher proposition than a even a slightly past prime Tszyu. It is also the case Calzaghe's win was better, because unlike Hatton he was at a horrible stylistic disadvantage, was away from home, and didn't need the ref's help

I give Hatton far more credit for beating Tszyu in the manner he did, than I do to Calzaghe beating Hopkins.

7 year age difference, and although B Hop was a defensive master, and great at making other fighters fight his game as he got older, there is no way in hell it should have been as close as it was if Calzaghe was as good as he thinks he is.

    And I'm a Brit btw!

    :good :good :good nice post

it doesn't mean now that hatton lose that you would jump off the train and jump on calzaghe because he's still winning and undefeated.

Hatton's win is simply better, for christ sake its a KO win and that tsyzu was still younger compared to hopkins.

Hopkins is further gone physically...but he still wants it more than Tszyu did.

Tszyu turned up in shape and gave it a crack like a pro...but I honestly don't think deep down he was all that bothered.

Calzaghe, of course, is well past his peak too.
