Cotto imo, doesnt seem that close to me. I could be being fooled by the fact that at the time HBO was a hype machine the likes we dont really have for boxing today... might have made it seem like Cotto was more relevant and popular than he was at the time relative to todays fighters, if that makes sense.

But to me seems like Cotto was more popular.

Exactly, certain ethnic groups are easier to sell too. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are two of biggest demographics who follow boxing.

Social Media is cancer. It will ultimately kill us all out of pure stupidity. Just wanted to get that out there.

On topic, Cotto was just waaayy more fun. Also boxing media was far superior. You had HBO, Cinemax, Espn on Tues (sometimes) and Fri and other smaller channels. Sometimes local. Etc.

Because the cancer was in it's infancy, you didn't have to be aware of every whim, every emotion, every idiot thought that ran through the mind of a fighter at their best and worst.

I think Crawford probably gets more domestic opportunities because hes american... I dont think thats a direct reflection of a disparity in popularity.
    Imo.

That being said, obviously with this Canelo fight, it will change things.... this may likely reach levels of promotion, via social media outlets, and Turkis backing, that even Cotto Mayweather didnt reach... which will undoubtedly increase Craws stardom.

I think my answer may likely change depending on how well crawford canelo does and how his performance is received.
