Who was more skilled: Sugar Ray Robinson or Roberto Duran

Robinson more versatile...Not much between them in the skill departments.

 

Robinson for me is the most skilled filmed fighter in history.

I have yet to see any fighter who was as complete a package as SRR, there's no such thing as a perfect fighter but SRR is about as close as were ever gonna get ya herd?

 

They were both skilled and versatile in different ways. Two great fighters and if the peak welter Robinson fought the peak welter Duran it would of been a real close one IMO.

Robinson was more complete.

But i've honesty not seen any fighters that mixed offense and defense so simultaneously whilst pressing a fight like Duran did.

 

Robinson was a better athlete, had better intangibles in general, but skill for skill there's next to nothing between them as I see it. In fact, I might actually give Roberto the edge when it simply comes down to mastery of the craft. The two best overall boxers I've ever seen.

 

I totally agree with this!

Roberto for me

 

Robinson for me. I think he could most things better than Duran. I also give Robinson the edge in having a great chin.

 

Defence - Duran, better punch slipping and parrying
Lateral movement/movement - Robinson
Punch technique -I'd go with Robinson but then how much of that is athleticism?
Cutting off the ring/offensive footwork - slight edge to Duran here

Skill wise it's actually pretty close, Robinson being P4P better with his natural gifts

 

I second that. Robinson was the better athlete, but skill-wise, we're splitting hairs. They were great and maximized their skillsets.

 

Duran's athleticism is kind of underrated i think.
