Who was more talented Don Curry, or Howard Davis

Howard Davis Jr was one of the most talented amatuers I have ever seen, along with Mark Breyland. Shawn O'Sullivan was another. Willie Dewitt and Nick Wells Power punchers. These are fighters that were mismanaged or did not make the best of there Pro Talent.....SRL was one of the best amatuers I have seen but he made the best of his pro talent and was trained and managed well.

 

I've always thought Pedroza would beat Sal. Maybe Sanchez did too, because when asked about that fight, he turned it down.:rasta

 

top punchers in my opinion. no order and just in my lifetime. Duran, Arguello, Cuevas, Lopez and Saad Muhammad in his prime.:hat

 

I was no Davis fan, but I though he was thoroughly robbed against Rosario. As was Ramirez in the first fight. PR decisions both.:hat

 

as a professional Curry was one of the best. He sure fell apart after Honeyghan. Curry was a guy who did well when he was undefeated. That loss to Honeyghan really affected how he saw himself as a fighter.

 

Speaking of Shawn OSullivan. I remember how Leonard managed him. But there was one fight I have a memory of when he fought Simon Brown and it was sad in a way. Shawn was pummeled and even his sides were red from Simon's punches. I think it went only 3 rounds.

 

When you think about these two fighters, you have to put Curry above Howard by a wide margin.

Curry was special. He was elite. Curry's skill set were on par with Leonard and Hearns. His combination of speed, power, and boxing ability does not come along very often. His killer instinct was the best part of his arsenal. Once he hurt you, he would take you out. With his drug conviction, it's possible that drugs might have had something to do with his quick demise. His prime is definately underrated.

I could think of a lot of fighters who were as good or better than Davis. He was a good boxer, but so is Paul Malignaggi and Paul Spadafora. These are good fighters who are good enough to win an alphabet title if they fight the right opponent, but not good enough to keep it. Davis never even won a title. Davis had the fight with Rosario and lost it by getting knocked down in the last few seconds.

In closing, I would favor Curry in elite matchups with the Mosely's of the world, but I don't even know if I would fave Davis fighting the Terrance Ali's of the world.

 

I think he also beat Hilmer Kenty at some point.
