Was it Benetiz? Ali was pretty good at it during his second career
    Holmes was great against Mercer

There's a thread about this i started a while back, it's on the classic forum first page now if you want to see some of the notable mentions. Just thought i'd offer some insight for you there. It's a great thing to watch when you realise a fighter has it down to a fine art and does it tactically.

It's a toss up between Benetiz and Ali, but Mercer was the best at putting his opponents through the ropes.:rofl

Victor Galindez is the man here. Benitez clearly as well, Hopkins does it very well also. Azumah Nelson has it down to an art also.

It's not like he needs to be back to the ropes to do what he does so well though, he can fight exactly the same in centre ring, i don't think the ropes are central to his gameplan, someone like Hopkins lures a man to the ropes then hits a combo or flurry.

But technically Toney is a great shout here, strictly speaking.

I don't know who was the best overall, but when Ali sat back on the ropes biding his time, allowing Foreman to punch himself weary, then sprang forward and knocked George out, that was one of the greatest moments in boxing history. Genius.
