Who was the best British boxer of all time?

    Joe Calzaghe was the best British fighter of the 90`s and noughties, but Ken Buchanan, the former lightweight champion of the world (from Scotland) had better opposition than Calzaghe in the form of the awesome Roberto Duran, who went on to say in the article in the ring magazine that overall in terms of jabbing speed etc Buchanan ticked most boxes in important catergories above the likes of Hagler, Hearns and Leonard as the best well rounded fighhhter Duran ever met, so I supposed Duran`s puck as te greatest British fighter of all time would be Buchanan and that`s good enough for me, both Ken and Joe were better at slipping shots than any other fighters from the UK and Calzaghe had the fastest hands in British boxing history. Who do most boxing fans consider the best British boxer of all time?

    Lennox Lewis for me is the best ever British boxer, has a superb record. Second was Calzaghe, both head and shoulders above the rest.

    Buchan an for me though legacy wise it's hard to argue against Fitz.

    Wilde, both Lewis', Berg, McAvoy, Harvey all have a shout and Turpin has the best win of the lot.

    Had quality guys like Conteh and Stacey as well but for me I think Buchan an had the most talent.

    Buchanan fought a younger version of Duran at his prime weight than Laing other than beating Duran Laing didn`t do much and was knocked out by Collins twice, look what Curry did to Collins in comparison.

    I would have loved to have seen Conteh in his prime vs a prime Calzaghe, having said that I feel Joe wass far better than Saaad Muhammad.

    He got exposed by Barrera because of his awful balance, which almost cost him vs Kelly also.

    I think he had great balance for someone who’s offence consisted almost entirely of gazelle punching.

    To answer the premise of the thread, I will pick Lennox, the cockney with the Canadian accent.

    Buchanan told me he would take me to a football game when I was wee and didn't so he's not getting my vote!!!!

    His book was good, especially the bit where he had to lose more weight than needed caus of dodgy scales against Laguna and when he got pissed and went to America to fight Duran and wondered around the bars!
