rc. Out of the blue this character attacked my post, and berated the U.S.A. for mistreating American Indians, then putting the Japanese into camps right after Pearl Harbor, and finally bringing up the Vietnamese debacle...
From NOWHERE "whosethere" , who obviously is more interested in political crap than boxing lore, entered in this political b.s. It irks me to hear my country so slandered, whilst the rest of the world is treated as the victim...So, I defended my country from this poster's tirade...
Now when i thought the subject was Kaput, he attacks me by wishing me dead....rc ,I did not start this brouhaha, wished it to end, but I will not be cowered or threatened by such misguided souls...Thank you once again rc,
it helps to know I am not alone...Stay strong.:good

Lets get back to the topic and leave the "outside the ring" stuff outside, please.

here is my guy and I NEVER hear him mentioned

"I will defend my title against all comers, none barred. By this I mean white, black, Mexican, Indian, or any other nationality. I propose to be the champion of the world, not the white, or the Canadian, or the American. If I am not the best man in the heavyweight division, I don't want the title."

And from everything I have read he lived up to that claim.
Along the way he set records (at that time) for the fastest knockout in a title fight (one minute and 28 seconds) and the most consecutive wins by knockout (eight) by a heavyweight champion. He was the shortest heavyweight champion in history and the second lightest after Bob Fitzsimmons. He once defended his title twice in one night, although some historians refuse to accept those wins as title defences, insisting they were exhibition bouts. But in newspapers at the time, they were advertised as heavyweight title fights. If those defences are counted in his record, he actually successfully defended his title 13 times. He defeated more challengers in the two years and 10 months he held the crown than Sullivan, Corbett, Fitzsimmons, Jeffries, and Hart put together. And those five gentlemen were on the throne for a combined total of 24 years.
Gentlemen, I give you the almost forgotten - Tommy Burns

My apologies to everyone trying to stick to the subject of this thread. I have a bad habit of getting sucked into arguments with arm-chair patriots.

Anyway, I already mentioned Arguello, how about Alex Ramos?
The guy has spent his time since retiring from the ring trying to help out other retired boxers through his organization "Retired Boxer's Foundation."
Here's a link for those who might want to help out themselves:

One last time, cause I am not your punching bag...I never heard your name before, so how the hell did I "sucker you" in an arguement ?. So I am an "arm-chair PATRIOT because I responded to your political tirade against me
by sucker punching me from out of the blue....I HATE war as much as you do sir, but sometimes there are the good guys against the bad guys to use a western parlance...And I DON"T WISH YOU DEAD !

Hardly a tirade. Simply pointing out a historical error while agreeing with you about Ali. Obviously we look at things from vastly different perspectives when it come to this country, although I don't doubt you love it.
I think you completely mistook what I said about America making mistakes for some kind of condemnation of this country that I love enough to have fought for, and for which I blessed my two sons to go and fight for.
Everyone should give back in some way for the benifits they recieve from living in this country. Ali did not, and that was my whole point.
It was the vitriol in your response that promted me to continue an argument that does not belong in this forum, and I have apologized to the other posters for my part in it.
Now...can we get back to boxing?

Yes, sir, he certainly did - I'm not sure it quite rates with Max's sledgehammer down the pipe but I think he has an edge on Ingo's Bingo!

good post . Many times it is **** d law and **** democracy but still what Ali did is not close at all 2 what Schmelling did in terms of either risking 1self or in terms of saving others , or do u disagree ?

Xactly . Even Ali's a better Xample 4d sake of this thread than Jack Johnson . Johnson even avoided d best black fighters while he was "d champion" . And i think Ali's motives were selfish as well , just not as selfish as Johnson's .

Since I'm not from that part of the world, I'd be very interested in hearing what those posters who are think about it. Someone who heard the everyday news, and new the every day situation. It's a perspective that is impossible to get fom thousands of miles away.

    I think u took d exact opposite of what i meant .
I meant that most here would consider it as a conspiracy theory .
I usually don't go by majority's opinion when nontrivial topics r at stake .
