    Toss-up between Lopez and Nelson.

Go with Azumah on the basis that he was one of the greatest rematch fighters ever, and his best wins (Gomez, Fenech and Ruelas) are much better than Lopez' (Alvarez, Grigsby). His wins over Sorjaturong and Sor Vorapin look great on paper, but neither was at their best when Lopez blew them away. Lopez was one of the best fighters of the era to watch though, and the only thing holding him back historically is a lack of defining wins, rather than lack of ability.

Lopez imo, although he is not the most tested, Nelson was more tested and by some distance. It comes down to opinion when going purely on visual aesthetics and not resume, but for me it's clear, Lopez was the ****, it's just blatant. Tremendous boxing ability and technique on the power shots, punches in bunches, ususally from range, but he was usually at his own range because his generalship was so good, positional sense etc.

That said, you could swing it for Nelson on the basis of effectiveness as opposed to merely on skill. Nelson was so strong, great at fighting off the ropes (one of the GOATS in this regard along with guys like Victor Galindez), had heart, power, and could pound downstairs. These traits are desirable when it comes to actually winning tough matches and or proving yourself.

    I'll go with Lopez.

Calzaghe was a great ring general btw, establishing the jab in mid ring and changing direction as he pleased, it will always be left to speculation as to whether he would have done it at the highest level in his prime, but that's not to say he wouldn't have done. At the end of the day, all we can do is speculate on all of this stuff when it comes to retired fighters.
