People forget, and I also did to an extent, that Lennox's reign was really from 1999-2003 and wasn't the head guy in charge in the 90's. Like you said, it went from Tyson to Holyfield to Bowe and took Tyson coming out of prison to get things going again. H2H I'd place Lewis Top 10, maybe at 7 or 8. Those losses to McCall and Rahman by single shots hurts him at heavyweight ATG placement. So my Top 10 H2H list as of today would be: 1.) Mike Tyson 2.) Muhammad Ali 3.) Joe Louis 4.) Larry Holmes 5.) Riddick Bowe 6.) Sonny Liston 7.) Lennox Lewis 8.) George Foreman 9.) Joe Frazier 10.) Evander Holyfield I struggled with the last two and might replace them with Wlad or even Fury. Someone like prime Tony Tucker could conceivably make the Top 15. He's a tall and mobile heavyweight with a tremendous chin who can compete in any era.
Maybe Ali has a deeper resume. No one else. As regards powerpunching, dangerous heavies, Lewis - with Morrison, Ruddock, Mason, Golota, Tyson, McCall, Tua, Butler, Grant, Golota, Bruno, Rahman and Briggs- NO ONE has a deeper resume.
Bowe is so superior that he was countered silly by a fat old Tubbs? Or got his ass kicked by Golota twice? And please don't tell me he was past his prime, if he trained properly, etc; because if Lewis had trained properly for Rahman I, you get what happened in Rahman II. When Bowe had the motivation to get off his arse and prove he was better than Golota in a rematch, he got his arse kicked even worse. Although, your list wasn't anywhere near what I was expecting. I was fully expecting Marciano or Dempsey above him, which I'd have taken offense to. There's nothing I strongly disagree with in your list outside of Bowe being better.
Mason, Golota, Golota again (oops), Butler, Grant, Rahman, Briggs...really? Beating these guys makes Lemmie's resume great? Lennox has a solid resume, on par with Tyson's, but including those mentioned and Golota twice doesn't quite make the cut. They certainly don't add any great significance. Power hitters are easier to beat than the skilled bunch that Tyson steamrolled.
In no way shape or form am I a Lennox fanboy. I'm simply not blind to the reality he was extremely formidable h2h. At his best nearly every HW in history has their hands full with Lennox. I noticed you ducked a very simple and straightforward request. Who is in your top 8?
Look on his best night, I see more in Bowe then Lewis who nearly got dethroned by Ray Mercer... not a prime Ray the one who got outclassed by a senior citizen and on top of that he got a boxing lesson from a joke in Bruno before he gassed. He was also poleaxed in his prime by Oliver and Rockman, which other HW lineal champ can say smack damn in the middle of there prime they got butchered by a B tier fighter? not once but twice. at the end of his career Bowe got a bad beating from Andy in the dirtiest fight I have ever seen it made me respect Bowes chin and heart more, something Lenny utterly lacks. and no you don't get ditto results in the Rockman bouts don't buy the "Not motivated card" Lenny drops he is a douche and a narcissist who cant take an L and makes my skin crawl. Also why the **** would I care if you are offended by my list? its a sports forum sweet cakes.
I think Fury matches up well with anyone with the skills he has shown. Awkward and defensive. So far he has been brilliant. Maybe Joshua will exploit some weakness, but so far he could probably make Ali look small and awkward. Tyson with his style might have been interesting with Fury because of the body work. Foreman? I see Fury outboxing him. The bodywork of Tyson makes me think he could maybe beat Tyson Fury. Joshua? His chin would fail him. If you cannot handle Ruiz then Tyson would be trouble.
