Is there any definitive proof that Lomachencko had 397 amateur fights? I mean, that's a lot of fights. That record might be nothing but folklore. I don't think people are conceiving how hard it would be to have 397 amateur fights, let alone win 396.

He's been competing since he was 5, there are hundreds of amateurs who have had 300-400 fights. Even Broner had an amateur record of 300-19 and he turned pro young.

I think maybe we need some perspective on where the burden of proof lies.

Anyway, there is a solid case to be mounted for either.

If you prefer the Cuban style (or are yourself Cuban, or Caribbean islander) you're probably going to say Guillermo.

If you prefer the Ukrainian style (or are yourself Ukrainian, or eastern European) you're probably going to say Vasyl.

They're both among the very best p4p amateurs of the last generation with jam-packed trophy cases and cred up the wazoo, and beyond that it's minor quibbling and 'pick what you like'.

Tony, you ever hear about glass houses? :think Are you sure you want to be raising a stink about the verifiability of someone's amateur boxing explits?

Well, I am but a lowly poster on a internet forum, not a 2 time gold medalist who is about to be a millionaire in a few years...:conf

I'm not trying to come down on Lomachenko - I'm a fan of the guy, and have been since '08, before a lot of people even knew who he was, but this hype is getting out of hand.

I'm not sure how it is in the Ukraine. There is video of him fighting with a ref and gloves as big as him when he's a little kid.
It's irrelevant to my point anyway, Broner started competing at 9 and compiled a record of 300-19 without doing anything on the international stage (or national stage actually) and there are literally hundreds of boxers who have had 300-400 amateur bouts. And Lomachenko is 25.
So your point of having that many bouts as being doubtful makes no sense, if he hadn't had 400 or so bouts you'd wonder what he's been doing all these years.

Rigondeaux by a mile. His fights weren't competitive. He was untouchable. Also, Loma lost his motivation lately. That's why he didn't win his 2nd Val Barker trophy.

His 12 losses weren't competitive? :huh

Lomachenko is just focused on working on things for the pro game, and yes he's had enough of the amateurs. He hasn't lost his motivation for boxing at all though, the disinterested look on his face when he's fighting is there because he doesn't have to exert himself much and he's focused on the bigger picture. Watch him against Selimov in a couple hours time.
