All of which is irrelevant. We're considering the fighters at the time of the fight, not post-fight. Hopkins was relatively green (as was Roy) and in his first ever bout with a world class opponent at the time. Chavez was the P4P #1 and had just come off dominant wins over Hector Camacho and Greg Haugen. Neither fighter was in his prime, but Chavez just starting the downslope of his (which he didn't actually start until after he'd been dominated by Pea) as the P4P #1 is worth much more than Hopkins still being a ways from his as a MW contender.

Chavez was fighting 2 pounds above the class he'd dominated for the past 4 years, against a fighter who held no size advantage on him whatsoever. Try again.

Laugh all you want, it doesn't mean much when everyone else in this thread is laughing back in yours.

Can't say I agree with either of those statements. Whitaker's jab, elusiveness, and ring generalship made him one of the best long-range fighters of all time, regardless of his height. As for Jones, I think he showed pretty amazing inside instincts at times, along with a solid grasp of the fundamentals. Not until he aged did he really show vulnerabilities inside, then again by that time he was showing vulnerabilities pretty much everywhere.
