Who was the better "Fighter of the Decade": Manny Pacquiao(00s) or Roy Jones(90s)?

He wasn't fighting bums mate, he was a green fighter on the way up, and he didn't have a huge promoter throwing megabucks behind him and handpicking his every fight, so he fought whoever got put in front of him. He was an unknown fighter trying to make his way in the sport, and was then handed a chance vs Roy Jones out of the blue. In hindsight, it was a very good win because of what Hopkins went on to achieve later (including changing his style and reinventing himself in the late 90s/early 00s), but at that time Roy Jones beat an untried, untested, unproven fighter when it comes to world title level boxing.

I haven't seen the fight in a long time, dunno why I thought the KDs were in the same round. I don't carry around a scorecard for every fight I've ever seen in my backpocket, but I remember it clearly enough that to say "Hopkins won every second" other than the KDs is laughable, it was a far more hard-fought contest than that. I'll re-watch it and post my card, which will reflect how the fight actually went, unlike your pile of nonsense.

I will assume since you didn't address my other points, that you accept you were talking shite about Hopkins being better in 1993 than Barrera & Marquez were in the mid 2000s.

So based on that logic, Marquez was relatively tried and untested in the first Pacquaio fight and stil managed to win most of the 12rounds. Hopkins was a great untested fighter just like Marquez was to an extent - Marquez had Gainer/Medina as his best wins, good but not the wins of a great fighter. Hopkins was a 28yo in his physical prime and would be unbeaten for 12years and arguably hasn't lost since

Great save  Although no one believes you've seen the fight after you ran from the thread, as predicted. As for me being biased - why so I can win an argument a whole year later, I must be Nostradamus, well I did predict you running from the thread

I'd bet money if there was compubox Hopkins would be outscoring Mercado 3-1 in punches landed

I didn't see this before FYI, well I certainly rank Toney ranks higher and I'm a big fan of both men, great fighters. Toney at his best was considered P4P no1 for a short time. His resume speaks for itself - Nunn was around top2 P4P when he dethroned him, McCallum rated very high and the greatest ever 154lber perhaps, fought him 3 times, then add Reggie Johnson, Barkley, Jirov, Holyfield, Prince Charles Williams, Littles, I also thought he beat Sam Peter (clearly) and Griffin. He was robbed by politics of a Rahman and Ruiz win too

I just don't think wins over Morales, Mckinney, Hamed, Tapia are quite as good at the end of the day

All the same I hope MAB wins a 4th world title

:huh How did I run from the thread?? I replied, then you replied, then I replied again. Where was this "run"? Yet another fail.

Ask yourself this: if I only knew about that fight from boxrec and hadn't seen it, then how could I make a mistake like thinking both KDs were in the same round, when they weren't? Boxrec lists the rounds that KDs occurred in, doesn't it? So if I had been using boxrec, I wouldn't have made that error. I simply haven't watched that fight in a long time, and did not remember that certain detail about it correctly.

And that error is far more understandable than your ludicrous claim that Hopkins won "every second" other than the KD rounds -

:patsch Marquez even in 2004 was more proven than Hopkins was in 1993, by far. He was a world champion with some solid world-level wins, whereas Hopkins had been fighting journeymen with many losses in 10-rounders.

Marquez in 2008 and Barrera in 2003 are completely incomparable to the 1993 B-Hop, out of sight.

It's ridiculous to even suggest otherwise.

I don't know i don't spend as much time on boxrec as yourself  And no it isn't more understandable, its like saying Pacquaio knocked Marquez down once in the second and twice in the 10th  Hopkins dominated practically every miniute he took about 1 round off, I honestly forgot about that and only remember the domination that happened for most the fight

    Irrelevant.

You said Toney is/was more rated/regarded than Barrera. I say that's BS, that despite my own opinion on the subject, more will favour Barrera.

You said Hopkins won "every second"... other than the 6 minutes which cover the 2 rounds he was dropped in.

    "Every second".

That statement undoubtedly aligns the other 10 rounds with a Calzaghe-Lacy style ultra-dominant humiliation.

That is complete and utter bollocks, you were wrong and talking shite. :good

Obviously the knock down rounds were 10-8 rounds for Mercado, even if Hopkins wins the rounds they're 10-8 rounds for the judges

Watch more boxing before you talk about it :good

Jog on Mary Poppins you fish. You are a pompous crashing bore. Nobody wants to read your over-long, pretentious dissertations on boxing. You are about 30 usernames in on ESB and have posted about 30890097878 times. What a sad muppet.:rofl:crybaby
