Erik Morales or Marco Antonio Barrera (Prime for Prime)? Why.

Morales just slightly. Lost 2/3 to Barrera in some great fights, but did better against similar opposition. More versatile I'd say.

    Marco Antonio Barrera

A little more versatile in my opinion; better natural coordination, better footwork, better inside fighter, better defensive fighter, faster hands, better body punches, and a better counterpuncher. I think he was a little more fluid in his combinations too. But a damn good case can be made for Morales as well who was great at long range and a true warrior who mixed up his attack well. Like Barrera, he could box and brawl.

It's so hard to come to any solid conclusion regarding the overall skills and versatility between Barrera, Morales, and Marquez.

Barrera just chose to use his skills more. I will go with Morales because he had the skill set yet fought like a ****en gladiator coming to the ring the please his fans first then win the fight. I love both fighters but Morales will be remembered for years to come while i predict MAB will fade. He will be remembered as the man that had that incredible trilogy with Morales.

Are you guys kidding me? Why would you pick Barrera over Morales. Look at the way they both went out and tell me how you could possibly pick Barrera.

I perfer Marquez's style the most, followed by Morales, followed by Barrera. I like Morales more than any of them though, due to his heart, and just something about him. Certain fighters there's just something about them that you like. Morales had that for me. Marquez is the most textbook, perhaps the best variety of punches as well. A case could be made that he's the most skilled, but he hasn't yet accomplished as much as the other two.

It's not that insane. Barrera arguably has a fuller resume, and beat Morales 2/3. What is so crazy? I voted Morales as well, but you're acting like it's not close, which is ridiculous.

I am voting for Morales in part because I think he was even more fearless than Barrera. I also think he could beat a larger variety of fighters.

    Agreed

In terms of overall technical skill and textbook technique, I rate Marquez ahead of Barrera and Morales. Robbi and I have agreed that if one were to show an aspiring amateur boxer a video of a professional, Marquez would be that guy (along with Ricardo Lopez). He has almost flawless technique and great skills.

But like you said, he doesn't have the resume they have; which could be attributed partly to the high-risk/low-reward billing in his earlier days. I am leaning towards him to win a decision over Manny Pacquiao, although I still need to rewatch a couple fights before I make a final pick. A win over Pacquiao would be a HUGE boost to his resume. Time isn't on his side, however, he still looks very good.

A dream matchup for me: Marquez v Sanchez @ 126

Yea i mean its close but i just hated the way Barrera fought his last fight. It made me lose admiration towards him. Morales knew he wasnt gonna beat Pac the third fight and he never ran he engaged and went out early but left it all out there. I expected the same from Barrera but thats just me. And yea your right its very close...

I think if JMM and Morales had met in their primes at 126 (which is hard IMO because I think Morales is best at 122), I think Morales would have beaten him. I think JMM's counters would have been ineffective and Morales would have just kept coming making it a brawl, and his tenacity would win a close decision.

I'd take a prime Marquez over Barrera @ 126 and Morales at his best over a prime Marquez @ 126.
