Who was the better finisher? Louis or Robinson??

Josephine Louisa was the better finisher. That right hand was brutal.

 

Tough call. Both are finishers of the highest calibre. Honestly couldnt pick one over another. I cant think offhand of one instance that either had a man hurt and didnt finish the job

Joe Louis, of course. Robinson, though an aggressor first and foremost, was content to box with caution and win a fight on points if need be. Joe Louis never boxed like he was aware of a points system; even jabbing was just part of the attritional process. If a man lasted the distance with Louis, he was plain lucky, counted himself so, and dreaded the rematch.

a coincidence that these two are also known for their textbook technique, great power and fluid combinations? i think not. a killer instinct can go to waste without these fundamental skills. i wouldn't say one was the better finisher than the other, but if pushed, louis.

 

Very tough call...edge to Louis IMO. It seemed like Louis was just programmed to search and destroy... both were killers though. (Would love to hear JG's take on this.)

To me, that comment suggests an inference that viewers may
be familiar with prior televised appearances by Robby. From what
I understand, this was not his televised debut, merely the earliest
currently released kinescope of a telecast SRR bout. I suspect he
might have been affected somewhat by the memory of Jimmy
Doyle at this time.

Louis was not absolutely infallible in the finisher's department
(nobody is), but the rare exceptions are noteworthy enough to
merit some mention. Patsy Perroni got up from knockdowns in
rounds two, seven and nine to go the distance, Natie Brown got
up from an opening stanza flooring to likewise go a complete ten
in their first bout (but lasted less than four in the rematch), the
rugged Harry Thomas got up from five knockdowns to return fire
before Joe finally put him down and out, Galento uniquely avenged
a knockdown with one of his own, Pastor got up from multiple KDs
in rounds one and two of their rematch to rally prior to the round
11 knockout, and Abe Simon was able to survive several more
rounds after first getting knocked down in both fights with Louis.
(In the rematch though, the first two knockdowns came right at
the end of rounds two and five, so the challenger had a full rest
period to recover.)

 

That´s like asking who was the better painter DaVinci or Michaelangelo? Pointless question.

Joe Louis is the best finisher in boxing history imo. He'd be closely followed by Tito Trinidad which may surprise some but he was class in this department. SRR definitely up there though

 

Trinidad had Vargas on the mat early yet Vargas, with his chin maintained himself in one of the best war of the decade.

Give me Louis, he was a better puncher than Robinson and was always looking to Kayo an opponent. Robinson was a boxer and might not be looking to hurt an opponent right away. Robinson took his time with the jab, and movement until an opponing came and then he finished the job.

Louis on the other hand, his entire plan was to deliever a punishing punch and follow it up with a finisher. He was seek and destroy for go. If you lasted the rounds it was because you were good enough to stay away the entire fight and not get into any trouble, which rarely happened with Joe.
