Who was the better finisher? Louis or Robinson??

I'd lean towards Louis, probably the best finisher on film.

 

Good post. I stand corrected. Obviously both scored knockdowns and didnt finish the fight there and then but i think people get the gist of my comment.:good

Funnily enough, i just viewed the 2nd Simon fight yesterday and the look of indignation on Abe as the fight was stopped was funny

 

Louis was the best ever IMO

 

Yep, maybe the 2 best ever in this department, no-one was superior to these guys when it came to finishing a man... not even each other

Joe was such a good finisher, that my tendency was to actually look for exceptions. Ray's 108 career stoppage wins speak for themselves, but I wonder what the final total might have been without the Doyle tragedy, or having to carry opponents like Fusari.

And with good reason. Watch the count of referee Eddie Joseph carefully. Simon stated he was following that count, and rose at nine. It does look to me as though Abe lifts his knee off the floor as Joseph's arm comes down for nine, not ten. Furthermore, if you review it a second time, watching the youtube counter, freeze it at the moment his knees touch down. That happens at about 8:04.5. That youtube counter is still at 8:13 when his left knee lifts back off the canvas. It was a quick count. In Kinshasa, Foreman was down for exactly ten full seconds. Abe was not given that much time.

I can accept a count being longer than ten seconds. A count which takes less than ten seconds to complete is more problematic for me. And again, does it look to you as if Joseph counted to ten on the film? BoxRec records Louis-Simon II as a TKO, and that's wholly appropriate in this situation. Abe's record shows only TKO stoppage defeats, and that's as it should be.

 

Well to tell the truth i havent timed it or noticed a short count but i have seen the fight several times and,to me, Simon hadnt much left. He was getting caught often and although he might have been a bit clearer in the head, his body looked like it was packing in IMO. He was falling into Louis and in one of the knockdowns he actually kinda crawled over to the ring ropes to help himself up. A fair stoppage , again IMO


I can see where your coming from about counts but at the end of the day it doesnt necessarily mean 10 seconds. Its a ten count. Maybe Joseph was a little fast that night, i dont know.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I think we should get the message the he is the "Capo di tutti capi", Boss of the bosses, or Poster of the posters.
