You don't have to take damage to deterioate as a fighter. The fact that this even has to be explained to you shows your level of knowledge. Even Freddie Roach said, (after the Cotto fight) Mayweathers legs are gone.
But you're really talking about whether or not a past prime Mayweather can beat a really past prime SMM and ODH. We already know the result of that. But I think in their primes, these two fighters reached higher levels than did Floyd. Floyd was consistently great/good, SMM and ODH at their absolute peaks I think were slightly better. Tito I'm not so sure about. And JMM and Cotto don't deserve to even be in the discussion at 147.
Ability wise I just think they were better, but Floyd certainly had a better career than either of them. Floyd had a better defense than both, but I also think he has a worse offense, and less power than either of them, and SMM was at least as fast as Floyd was and had a great chin. ODH had a reach advantage and a better jab. Certainly given the fights they had, it can be argued that in their primes they potentially could have beaten Floyd. ODH didn't lose by all that much when he did fight Floyd and SMM certainly had him hurt. Not trying to take anything away from Floyd after all he did win, and I don't have a lot of patience for those who use wins to justify fantasy losses, but in this case, this is just my opinion.
I much preferred watching Trinidad fight. I found Mayweather to be incredibly boring most of the time. That said, I think a Mayweather-Trinidad fight would've looked similar to Mayweather-Corrales. Trinidad's only chance to win would be by KO. And since nobody ever stopped Mayweather, I don't see it happening. Trinidad was also dropped quite a few times at welter - by guys like Anthony Stephens, Yori Boy, Oba Carr - not exactly the best welters who ever lived. And, like a few others have mentioned, I thought Oscar won a clear decision over Trinidad when they fought. On the other hand, I think Mayweather would view Trinidad as a big threat, so he'd take the fight very seriously. I just see him beating Felix in a pretty one-sided manner and probably stopping Felix late after dropping Trinidad a couple times during the fight. Mayweather by TKO.
Floyd could outbox Tito. It`s a good possibility. At the same time he would be in with the most dangerous fighter he`s faced certainly at 147. Trinidad was tall, rangy pretty quick as a Welterweight. Tito was one of the few boxers who could hurt you with any punch in his ****nal.
Listen, Floyd took vacations and preserved his body not only through said vacations but due to his style. Now you tell me how he will deteriorate similarly compared to another 38 year old who is active and doesn't rely on defence?
I don't think anyone is telling you that. Just that he looks less good than he did a few years before. I agree that he was having issues with his legs. Hey ho.
Jesus, that will happen in one of Floyd's fights and in his next fight people will be calling it his performance a masterclass. His legs aren't as gone as you lot think. He's not exactly struggling to move around.
I never said his legs were gone, and you don't know how gone I think they are so what you're basing this on is beyond me. :good
