He spent the majority of his heavyweight career fluctuating between 230 and 260 though. Very big heavyweight, apparently.

Ali knocked out good fighters 225 lbs, 2 pounds lighter than Lewis was when he KO'd Ruddock. I'd still say that Lewis was a significantly bigger man.

That would explain a lot, yes. But if it is steroid induced muscle mass that he has lost, I'd still expect a more visible decline in power. Strange case either way.

A few pounds? This is simply not true.

Most people agree these were his best performances in his prime and these were his weights:

    Conn: 199
    Scheming 2: 198
    Braddock: 197
    Max Baer: 198
    Camera: 196
    Buddy Baer: 206
    Walcott 2: 213

Average in his best fights 201 lbs

Against charles and marciano he was 213 and 218 for an average of 215 lbs. The fact he lost both these fights in a 1 sided fashion tells you something: being far above 201 isnt his optimal weight. Especially if you consider that before the layoff when he was at his career highest against buddy baer and walcott he was fairly easy to hit, lacked defense and head movement, and got dropped multiple times in both those fights and barely pulled off a comeback ko. This indicates that as an athlete and a boxer Louis frame was that of a cruiserweight and that is where he was at his best. Could he have bulked up in today's era to be an optimal and explosive 215-220 range? Possibly, but that isnt the discussion.

    Very basic math.

Tysons average in his best prime fights:

    Spinx: 218
    Tubbs: 216
    Holmes: 215
    Berbick 221
    Tucker: 221
    Bruno: 218
    Smith: 219

    Average: 218

    Wilder:

    Stiverne 1: 219
    Molina: 229
    Washington: 222
    Areola: 226
    Szpilka: 228
    Stiverne 2: 220
    Ortiz: 214

    Average: 222 lbs

Even if we include Reznick's 209 fury fight weight and ignore boxrec's 214, wilder's average STILL ends up being 220.

Wilder is obviously a larger man than Tyson and especially Joe Louis (they're practically a full weight class apart) no matter how you look at it. And i must repeat: wilder overtrained for the fury fight and it was one of his worsr performances so including it on this list is very disingenuous.

Louis dried out to get under 200lbs for Conn, and he said he felt like **** when he climbed through the ropes.

    Tale Of The Tape
    Louis

    Chest 41" ex 43"
    Forearm12.50"
    Bicep13"
    Thigh20"
    Calf 15"
    Neck16.25"

    Tyson
    Chest 43" ex 45"
    Forearm14"
    Bicep16"
    Thigh27"
    Calf18"
    Neck19.75"
Even allowing for slight discrepancies its clear Tyson is much the bigger man.

    Nice ad hominem breh.
I think its interesting that you say I'm doing this all for Marciano.

And then you post something like this:

I never made a case for Marciano in either thread.
    I don't believe I even mentioned him.
You've continually accused me of making these posts in order to boost a 180-190lb fighter.
And on the same token you've waxed poetry about how a fighter roughly the same weight would succeed in this era.

You've invented a crime on me, and then you commit that same crime in the next post.

I've already stated it once and I'll state it a second time:
These posts aren't meant to just boost Rocky.
These posts are meant to examine the argument that would supposedly block half a centuries worth of great and legendary fighters from success in modern boxing.

1-i assure you, I'm not trying to overcomplicate thing and I'm certainly not trying to low ball Louis' average weight.

2-if the fights I listed aren't a good selection, which ones do u think are his best performances? Logically, a fighter will be at his best weight and conditioning for their biggest fights. My numbers consistently show louis was at his best in the 201 range, NOT above 210. I'm willing to include other fights if you'd like.

3-wilder looked horrible against fury. He missed several wide punches and was gasping for air in just 6 rounds. Just because fury is his best opponent doesn't mean it was his best performance. Also, he got a DRAW and most people had him trailing on the scorecards outside the knockdown so how is that his best performance?

There are 3 categories when judging size:

    -bulk
    -weight
    -height/reach

Tyson is clearly bigger in bulk and was heavier on average so that's 2/3.

This just proves you cant only look at height or any 1 category to get the full picture.

We know wilder is bigger than both by those same standards.
