Steroids were not being widely used clinically, let alone for sports in Germany circa 1938.

Earliest confirmed (>90%) steroids case I know of is Roberto Duran.

Ali used Thyrolar bc he didn’t know about clen, but Pacheco wasn’t the guilty party there.

yes, he popped thyrolar during his training for the holmes fight.
but i was referring to the quote about pachecco, who did not admit he injected him "with all types of stuff", unless i missed something.

Yep. If there were PEDs being used, whatever Pacheco injected Ali with must have been pretty lousy - I never saw any kind of increased performance, he was gassing badly in several fights. No steroid or PED is going to offset bad training and diet, which Ali was guilty of more and more often as he aged. By the time of the Holmes fight, he was just going through the motions - he finally resorted to Thyrolar (under another doc, Ferdie had abandoned the Ali circus by then) because he was susceptible to any con man with a good line of bullsh!t, which is all it was. Ali never had any diagnosed sign of thyroid issues before or after the fight.
