I know at some point along the way, some promoter decided to play music while fighters made their ring walks, and that would be interesting, but who is the first boxer known to have a specific song he used for his ring walk and what song was it?

    Anyone know?

Didn't Tyson do it early in his career? Other than that I don't know of anyone doing it earlier than Tyson.

Now I am curious about that. My Granddad may have an idea on this. I will ask him tomorrow.

I do not know the answer to that question, But if they had entrance music back then, I am sure that Sonny Liston would have entered with his traditional training song, Night Train.

I'm envisioning Sullivan entering the ring carrying a phonograph.

I just remember hearing the Rocky theme starting this off. So, I'll say '76-'77 it really getting going and then of course 'Eye of the Tiger' became another staple a few years later. But to tell you the truth, I can't remember a specific fighter having the music going. Just being aware of the music.

I feel compelled to add, in fairness, that Sullivan's era was pretty schizophrenic when it came to being tough. You've got this stupid, cheesy, naive-sounding pop culture overlaid on top of a society of violent laborers, bareknuckle fights, basically open prostitution, and every legal drug imaginable.
