There was a video rental place further into the bad part of where I grew up that had a bunch of old fights and documentaries... I started reading about fighters before watching and Joe Louis got me hooked on boxing history. Then this rental place I found had Hagler vs Mugabi and Hearns, Leonard vs Hearns I, and a couple other but can't remember. Also those vids with Curt Gowdy interviewing Merchant and Clancy and others and reviewing tape on all the B & W greats... So I was hooked by the stories and history first, then I watched Hagler and Basilio and Robinson and Louis, etc...
Jose Napoles. His 2nd fight with Lewis was shown on Grandstands Saturday show, had read lots about him in BN and Ring, then to see those silky smooth skills for the 1st time was amazing, unlike all the old timers I have since seen on YT over the decades, he lived up to the hype. keep well.
Alexis Arguello Arguello knocked out Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini who wanted to win the title for his dad who was also a fighter in his day but did'nt get the chance to fight for the title as he was drafted to the military. Arguello after knocking out Mancini was seen apoligizing to Ray Mancini's dad for stopping his son. I was an Arguello fan for life after seeing that.
Thomas " Hit man" Hearns. First i saw Hagler Vs Duran, then later l saw Hearns vs Duran and was like omg.
Roy Jones Jr is by far my favorite...but the first I ever cheered for was a young Mike Tyson.......dude knocked a mfer out cold then the next second was on his knees trying to make sure he was okay...... That always stood out to me as a young man.
Hagler. First fight I remember seeing was Hagler Hearns (although I know I'd apparently been watching boxing since I was born). My father was a huge Hagler fan.
Ali, well I was introduced to the sport BY him. After that, Ken Norton. Always a peoples champ and a classy gentlemen. May not be the greatest heavy, but man did I love him.
