Hearns best wins: Cuevas (prime), Benitez (prime), Duran, Hill (prime), Sugar Ray Leonard (draw), Andries, Miller, Roldan.

Mayweather's best wins: Corrales (prime), Castillo (prime), Pacquiao, Cotto, Delahoya, Alvarez (prime), Guerrero, Mosley.

Hearns losses: Hagler, Leonard and Barkley 2X. (3 fights of the year)

    - Longevity goes to Floyd.

    - Hearns was involved in the much greater fights and was the more exciting fighters. Remarkably, Hearn also fought from 147 pounds - 190 pounds and was successfull.

Who do you think was greater?

Mayweather was the clear best of his era. I think that is the difference for me. Hearns participated in more exciting fights. (especially Hagler)

    It's not that easy.

    You have to consider:

    Resume Wins
    1. Names on the resume and their respective H2H abilities
    2. Their condition and their opponents condition
    3. Stylistic matchups and ranges of styles i.e threats or not
    4. The manner of the victory

    Resume Losses
    Same premises as wins

    H2H Ability
Assessment of their ability compared to other greats, more accurately gauged and greater credit given if they've been up against the very best of all time

    Longevity
This is about RING AGE. NOT their actual age, per say.
Someone who is a primarily defensive counter puncher tends to have greater longevity.
Someone who fights only once or twice a year does not receive as much credit as someone who fights five times a year etc.
    .....................................................................................

Now go and make a list, and do not spurt rubbish like 'Mayweather beat 20 world champions, all in the top 3' or something like that. We know they're ABC belts and Mayweather fought in a weaker era. (This is not me showing bias, divorce bias from rankings).

Use this and go with it. I would say Pacquiao is without a doubt GREATER than Mayweather, though.

I disagree with some of the points you made:

    - Longevity: That is clearly for me how long you were able to compete at a world class level.

    - Head to Head ability: That is a speculative criteria and should therefore in my opinion not be taken into account.

    - I do agree however that the manner of wins and losses should be taken into account.

Now who do you think was the greater fighter and why?

I would slightly lean towards Hearns but it is close.

    - What really makes the difference for me is Hearns win over Hill.
Hill was unbeaten at the time and regarded as the best light heavyweight.

    - Also I would rank Hearn exciting fights highter than Floyd's longevity. But that is of course subjective.

Hearns is higher ranked at a personal level because he is more like than Floyd. The hearts of fans will always make you better than you are.

Excitement or perception of prime is no indication of atg status.

    Objectively it is Floyd

That has nothing to do with who was better. Butterbean was more exciting than Ali so according to your logic butter bean ranks higher

    Why Floyd?

Objectively, it seems that Hearns has the slightly better resume.

One thing Floyd is that Hearns is not....the best of his era
