The fairer criteria is actual weight and not weight classes.Everbody who is not biased knows that.

So your comparing a 130 lb fighter to a welterweight? Correct me if I'm wrong but did Hearns start his professional career at 130?

How about we discuss more than just 4 particular victories?

How about we compare their top 20 wins? Floyd blows him out of the ballpark.

Money has won all his big fights , the Hit Man came up short on his first two big fights and lost to the blade someone that wasn't on his level, add longevity this is no contest.

Floyd's never had a big fight.

Hearns took on Hagler and Leonard at their very peaks. Right at the middle of their prime.

And he knocked out a Duran who would give the greatest MW of all time all he could handle.

what killed me about floyd is that when 147 was ripe with talent - prime cotto, margarito, pwilly, faded shane, etc

floyd retires for 2 years to juice up and cycle off HRT while the top WW beat the **** out of each other. i still think he may have won most of his fights bc of ring IQ but fighting prime guys will take a greater toll bc you will be forced to engage more.

    imagine floyd vs

    the shane/oscar from 2000
    prime vernon forrest
would floyd have won at 154 had he fought winky instead of alvarez?

floyd is an atg but part of his ring IQ involves peak matchmatching which involves understanding how your opponents attributes presents certain risks

so floyd avoids guys like margarito and khan. margarito puts on a lot of pressure like the castillo blueprint and khan is very rangy/fast which makes him tricky

alot of top fighters avoid fights but once in a while you have to take some risks...this is where floyd falls short on the ATG list

but floyd has taken risk and beaten top guys. the way he fights gives him a stylistic advantage over most. but to reiterate, he did well to avoid guys that could beat him

i like the fact that hearns brought the heart...he is not a better boxer than floyd but he is the better fighter which is evidenced by hearn's resume against fighting atg primes

    advantage goes to hearns

I think absolutely no one except Margarito fans believe he had much chance to beat Mayweather. He fought with pressure, yes but it wasn't intelligent pressure ala a Castillo. Castillo, cut of the ring, was intelligent. Margarito would follow, with almost zero ring generalship. I would have liked to see him fight PWill though.

Read articles back in Muhammad Ali's peak about how boxers, trainers, and writers thought he compared to Jack Dempsey.

Swap Mayweather with Ali and Hearns with Dempsey and look no further than this very thread!

The difference being that boxers, trainers, and writers nowadays do cite Mayweathers' greatness above the likes of a Hearns routinely. It's just the fans/haters that are clinging on and hoping to sway others' or to somehow stamp their mark on history.

Guess what? If you were born 50 years earlier, you would be the same clowns who insisted Jack Dempsey was levels above Ali!

One day you folks will realize the hate which clouded your supposed objective opinion. No other way to look at it (unless, of course, for some reason you literally do not rank ANY fighter of the last 20 years among any fighter who fought in the 80's or before... then I guess you're consistent and fine).

About the excitement factor that's just my perspective but it's like if you have a guy who is given hell against opponent A, B and C and has a great fight with each but wins against all, and you have another fighter fight the same guys, boringly dominate each one and show he's a clear level above them, you can't possible say the first fighter is greater because he's more exciting, can you? It just wouldn't make sense. How far can you take that logic? That's why I can't rate fighters like that. I don't feel the logic holds up to scrutiny.

Was Gatti greater than Mayweather? How far does the excitement logic go? Gatti's legacy of excitement is so far beyond Mayweather's and yet you'd never in a million years suggest Gatti was near the league of Mayweather let alone greater, would you? Again, how far does that logic really go and doesn't it kind of unravel?

There is no question that Floyd is greater than Hearns. No question
