Hopkins for me. It's close but Hopkins held the legit world tiles for longer not the WBA regular trash and what he did later on at higher weights confirms the idea he was far better than many thought during much of his reign. He was constantly underrated and was unable to prove how good he was due to the lack of quality at middleweight and unable to secure the type of fights that would raise his profile until the Tito fight.

People will use the usual argument that BHop's best wins were over blown up welterweights but that's true of Monzon and Hagler too. Oscar wasn't a proven middleweight I don't rate that win that highly at all but Tito beat Joppy not just beat him, destroyed him. So Tito was proven world class at middleweight.

Then you have to look at GGG's middleweight resume. His best win clearly for me the competitive fight with Jacobs. But other than that Murray, Brook, Proksa, not exactly that impressive. Much like Hopkins he fought in a weak era, dominated for a long time and then late in his career lost controversially to a highly rated younger fighter. Hopkins would go onto to prove he was better than his middleweight resume when he moved up, Golovkin hasn't done the same and can then only be judged by his middleweight reign over a weak era and so Hopkins edges GGG.

At middleweight it has to be Golovkin and it's not particularly close. More defences, more dominant in his wins and he didn't go life and death with a c class fighter like Mercado. Hopkins did multiple re-runs with some of his less stellar opposition padding that record nicely whereas the only re-run GGG is doing is with Canelo who is the current star of boxing. In his prime Golovkin was avoided like the bubonic plague and seemed unbeatable. Hopkins lost to RJJ which is no shame but in his prime Golovkin WAS the RJJ of the division.

Hopkins because of: resume, longevity, winning titles in the second half of the fifth decade of life (although this did not happen in the middle category).

    GGG.

As much as I don’t like Canelo, just him in resume is enough to surpass Hopkins.

Hopkins career as a whole might be better. A good argument for that. But at middle alone, it has to be Golovkin.

While prime for prime it could have gone either way. I’d still have to go with Hopkins based off of his resume being superior.

Here's the catch. Neither GGG or Hopkins had a great resume at 160. It's full of no hopers and small men.

I think Hopkins has the greater MW resume.
This doesn't mean I am saying one would beat the other but think due to circumstance, the names on Hopkins resume and when they fought seem greater imo

I can't think of Golovkin beating a more accomplished MW than K Holmes.

Trinidad and De La Hoya were smaller fighters coming up in weight when Hopkins beat them, but Hopkins did beat Trinidad before he retired and at that time (before 2 year out of the ring) Trinidad only had 3 MW fights but other than losing to Hopkins beat Joppy before who was a MW champ who was 9-1 in MW title fights and Cherifi, who was a former MW champ.

Oscar had beaten Sturm (close debatable fight) who was an undefeated MW champ and who won WBO, WBA and IBF MW titles as well as becoming a SMW champion in his career.

List the 10 best MW wins for both
    IMO and in no order

    Hopkins -

    K Holmes
    G Johnson
    W joppy
    F Trinidad
    A Echols
    H Eastman
    J Lipsey
    O De La Hoya
    A Echols 2
    S Vanderpool

    Golovkin -

    D Jacobs
    D Lemieux
    S Derevyanchenko
    D Geale
    M Murray
    G Proksa
    M Macklin
    W Monroe
    K Brook
    R Murata

I'm sure some will feel others should be mentioned instead but gives an Idea

Try again I saw Canelo beat him twice, the first Canelo took him to sleek school the 2nd time Canelo beat his ass Mexican style as Abel Sanchez and lower case g requested.
