The heavyweight division has produced some of the most incredible punchers the sport has ever seen, but who was the greatest among them?

Louis because of the combination of power and precision, IMO.

Guys like Foreman, Shavers and Wilder may have hit harder, but none of them could knock out a fighter like Joe Louis did. He was the complete package, and had everything in his toolbox to KO a guy. Power, speed, accuracy, combinations, set ups, shot selection, leverage and the killer instinct to finish someone off. Mike Tyson is an honourable second after him.

A very good argument, he had the perfect combination of power, ring IQ, speed, and technique. I still personally say Shavers because his power always scares me the most.

Yeah, this is exactly where I was coming from. The question as you noted was not "who's the hardest puncher," it's "who was the greatest puncher." There's more to punching than raw power.

I took him out for Marciano, but Wlad deserves a place in the punchers hall of fame.

On two separate occasions Sonny Liston knocked a few of his opponents teeth completely out WITH the mouthpiece still in!! He also on a couple of occasions broke his sparring partners ribs with 22 OUNCE GLOVES!!

Until you find someone with punching feats more devastating than these examples Liston's got my vote hands down!!

Foreman had the most casual power, so I pick him.

I don't think that any aspect of Wilders opposition could be compared favorably to Louis's.
