Who was the greatest Mexican boxer of all-time: Salvador Sanchez or JC Chavez?

Please vote and discuss. For me, this is a tricky one, but I find myself after much thought slightly favouring Sanchez. I'm not 100% confident in my choice though, hence me throwing it out to the Classic.

    Thoughts/opinions?

Eh, Sanchez could have overtaken JCC if he'd lived longer.

As it is... I'd probably favor JCC by some margin.

Yes he could have ,then again he might have been beaten by Pedroza in a unification,or moved up and been kod,we don't know.Maybe Olivares or Zarate are better than either, then there is Saldivar,Canto and Lopez to consider may be one of these is better than the two mentioned ?

I have Chavez at #1, and Olivares at #2 ahead of Sanchez.

Sanchez very well could have gone on to do more than either one, he was a magnificent fighter to watch, but I think it's quite clear that for accomplishments, Chavez was the greater fighter.

it takes my imagination to see what sanchez could have done.

    chavez pretty much did everything

Chavez is the greatest Mexican I rate Olivares second.

    Chavez, then probably Olivares.

Sanchez was great, but gets the benefit of the "what could've been" because of his tragic death.

I go more by what he did and what he showed, which is considerably less than Chavez.

I say Sanchez. Despite his abbreviated career, he fought and beat a lot of good fighters (and a couple great ones). Chavez was troubled by speedy movers (Whitaker, Taylor). I really don't think there was one style that Sanchez couldn't adjust to and beat. Where Sanchez may have an unfair advantage in this comparison is that we never witnessed him past him prime.

I can't really see the case for rating any of them ahead of either to be honest. Just my opinion. Olivares was a great great fighter though. Maybe I should've made it a choice of three.

I voted for Chavez of the two,but I think Olivares or Lopez might have as much claim to the second spot as Sanchez.

There's always a case for fighters as great as Saldivar and Canto.

What on Lopez's resume indicate to you that he may have been a greater fighter than Sanchez??

Sanchez beat Azumah Nelson, Wilfredo Gomez, Juan LaPorte.

Lopez has longevity on his side of course, but I don't believe years of mundane defences equal the heights of Sanchez's in-ring brilliance.

Maybe if Lopez had fought and beaten Carbajal and Gonzalez (I believe he could have) then he could be ranked alongside Sanchez, Chavez and Olivares - but he didn't.

What's your answer though? Who was the greatest Mexican boxer of all-time then?
