Joe Louis did say that he thought that Satterfield was a bigger puncher than Marciano … not sure where Williams ranks ...

Satterfield probably punched as hard as anyone, he took out Big Cat in 3, & others and rocked Ezz and the rest just did not have the other things Marciano possessed like chin, stamina, relentlessness...but I think if you asked Layne,Charles,Moore, they more than likely say that Marciano hit harder or was that much tougher because they all lost by KO to Rocky and all Beat Bob....but Satterfeild was a puncher extraordinaire and so was Rocky but who can say who hit harder at this level Shavers, Marciano Satterfield?

The fight between Charles and Satterfield still gives me chill. Its shocking to see the way Satterfield knocked Charles three steps backwards or sideways every time he connected. Ezz showed a lot of guile and resolve there.

Curtis Sheppard probably hit harder than all three. Everyone who fought him agreed he had the heaviest hands they'd tasted. I remember a funny quote about Sheppard, I believe it was attributed to Joey Maxim, who remarked that Curtis hit hard enough to leave the Everlast insignia on his gloves on the back of his opponent's throats.

Maxim, Moore, Walcott, and Bivins all gushed about Sheppard unholy power. Charley Burley's manager blamed one of Burley's losses to Charles on a devastating shot he'd received from Curtis in sparring.

I would say Satterfield because there is least in the way of other variables to acount for his punching efectivness.

These "who punched harder than who" threads are juvenile.

It is without doubt that Marciano was the most accomplished knockout puncher of this lot. Shot for shot, if Marciano was more reckless and less deliberate about his attack he probably could have loaded up for some sensational KO's but himself would have been vulnerable to more counters and leads.

Marciano was the most effective puncher, the best KO puncher and the best fighter of these three. Nuff said.

No doubt Marciano was much tougher and took a much better punch than Satterfield … Just talking what Louis said about raw power ...

All three had genuine knock out power but Marciano and Satterfeld also had world class power.

World class power is no harder than genuine knockout power, it is just that world class power is the ability to knock out world class opponents.

Hitting hard is one thing. Landing against professionals with the best reactions is another.

re marciano, satterfield, willams there must be a fair amount of quotes by common opponents somewhere
