Perhaps the same is true of McGovern.

It was almost impossible to get a quick knockout under LPR.

Sullivan and McGovern seem to have twigged "if I can just put this guy on the boards for ten seconds, then anything that happens after that is irrelevant!"

You wont believe this but as I typed that, McGovern was the name that came into my mind so I amended my post from,"Sullivan revolutionised boxing ,"to Sullivan revolutionised heavyweight boxing."

Why not Willard? It's my understanding that he could really crack, at least by reputation.

If we are talking about pure one shot power, then I don't see why it could not have been Willard.

FYI Jeffries never wrote an autobiography a book was ghosted by Fullerton which he unwisely put his name to, among the outlandish claims in it was the one that he would have beaten Johnson but for that fact that he drank drugged tea!
Fitzsimmons had been out of the ring for 2 years before he fought Jeffries in both contests, he was 37 and 39 years old for them!
If you don't have a clue what you are talking about it is always best to say silent!

    Read this carefully! Bob Fitzsimmons was born on;
26th MAY 1863 HE DEFENDED HIS TITLE AGAINST JIM JEFFRIES ON THE 9TH OF JUNE 1899.
FITZSIMMONS WAS THEN 37 YEARS OLD.
FITZSIMMONS CHALLENGED JEFFRIES FOR THE TITLE ON THE 25TH OF JULY 1902.
FITSIMMONS WAS THEN 39 YEARS OLD.

NOW FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE CAN YOU ADMIT YOU ARE WRONG?

Okay you can't bring yourself to say. I WAS WRONG I knew you would not be able to manage it!
I have a photo of Fitzsimmons tombstone with his date of birth and date of death clearly visible on it ,there is no controversy about when he was born.

Just an ignorant twat trying to muddy the waters because he is too petty, small minded, and gutless to admit he was WRONG!
Fitzsimmons was inactive for 2 years before BOTH fights with Jeffries. Sullivan lost his title to Corbett when he was aged 33,4 years younger than Fitz was when he was defeated by Jeffries for the first time and 6 years younger than Fitz was when he attempted to regain it.

So you are wrong again! A recurring habit with you!

Yeah I know, he's annoying as hell, I've had to deal with him on several occasions in the General. But still, be nice.:D

I think Jack Johnson said he thought Fitzsimmons and Langford hit harder than Dempsey. He was hardly Dempsey's biggest fan though. I'll see if I can find the paper
