Lovell only prrviously stopped once in his debut in a very long successful career. Blowing him out in one round is a decent statement. Lovell is kind of an enigma but in addition to his great amateur career, he had pro wins over world class fighters like Rosenbloom, Burman, and Godoy.

And Besmanoff retired in his corner against Liston without going down in his only other previous stoppage loss, the man was a tough customer.

You also missed Whitehurst, the guy who lasted 10 with Liston after just getting knocked out by Moore.

Davidson had a massive size advantage, solid fringe career, and its a spectacular one punch first round KO. He also beat Marty Marshall and John Holman.

Again your just nit-picking one man with no context or comparision. The point was a contrast to Lyle. How's his KO resume compare after moving past Shavers, Buster, and Middleton?

 

I haven't seen a film of the Moore-Besmanoff fight in recent years, but I watched the fight on TV in 1960,

and my memory is that Moore knocked Besmanoff down with a terrific right hand. Besmanoff managed to get up with blood pouring out of his nose, but seemed helpless and the referee stepped in.

The announcer thought Besmanoff's nose had been broken.

 

This looks like what happened:

He was floored three times, the right hand you described was at the 9th, he was saved by bell, and it was stopped in the 10th when he came out as mess.
Arch twice floored the ex-German heavyweight champion, once for an eight-count in the fifth and again fu "if ,' a S-end of the ninth when the bell interrupted the mandatory eight count. Besmanoff came out at the start of the tenth with blood streaming from his nose, damage left over from the right cross which decked him at the end of the ninth. Archie swatted him a few more blows sprinkling ringsiders with blood' ana Gilmer put an end to it.

Maybe Ali would, maybe he wouldn't. But in reality, all signs seem to point to where a previously healthly young contender blacked out and was stretchered out out of the ring after his first knockout loss.

It doesn't matter, the fact is it was an excellent knockout win for Moore. If you want to argue it wasn't brutal enough because the ropes held Lavorante up....

 

If we are only counting true KOs, not TKOs...etc.

George Foreman only has 16 or 17...less than 20 for sure.

I'm struggling to think of what his top 5 is now. Norton, Frazier..etc. apparently can't be counted because they were all official TKOs. And counting TKOs makes a case for Moore as a great puncher, and we just can't have that.

 

So what's wrong with Liston that he couldn't floor this guy and had to settle for a corner retirement? If he's such dynamite. Why did he not knockdown the man that a fat old LHW could multiple times. Was Liston just an accumilation puncher or what? A grinder?

 

But he has more "actual KOs" than Foreman.

I doubt Lavorante or the watching crowd thought it all that funny when they carried Lavorante out on a stretcher.
