"I'm content that my thread prompted discussion and possibly some re-evaluation." I've re-evaluated. I am now more convinced than I was before of Marciano's greatness after the miserably weak showing of the anti-Marciano voices on this thread and other similar threads.
Er, no. Ray Robinson is one of the most dangerous punchers who ever lived. Charles isn't. And that's discussion over for me really, iv'e no interest in debating it. I'm all for reappraisal but that is plain nutlicking, and it's not even Charles's nuts that are getting licked. It's the reason Robinson was ranked #11 on The Ring's all time punchers list and Charles was ranked...nowhere. It's the reason Ray Robinson was ranked #2 on my own composite punchers list and why Charles only got a brief look. It's the reason Seconds Out ranked Robinson top 10 all time and Charles was unranked. It's the reason why if you opened a thread and asked who the greatest puncher of all time was you would get people answering "Robinson" and nobody answering Charles. The reason: there is a class between them, at least, as career punchers. If you disagree, you are wrong, I am right, and that is all. :yep
The sad thing is, i'm not even denigrating Charles as a puncher or fighter, at all, by saying that. The nutlicking, the fanboyism, the embarrassing school-boy love in that this thread has (probably inevitably, in all fairness) become makes extreme statements about ATG fighters reasonable. Shame.
Whatever, you are being a complete and utter ***** McGrain. I just don't get what happened to you lately. You just seem to be bitter because The Marciano Nutlickers as you wish to call us, are completely taking McVey's weak arguments apart. And the bitterness and namecalling towards us for doing this is making this place look stupid. The whole point was not if Robinson and Charles were P4P comparable as punchers. Choklab just brought up a point about style. Both men relying on timing and technique as opposed to raw power, when you asked him to elobrate what he meant by "raw power." But Morbius brought up a good point. And the actual Charles vs Robinson pure punching debate had some interesting responses here: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=297994&page=3
Marciano's greatness has never been in question. Anyone who queries Marciano's one punch power ,or asks who were the best punchers he faced is "anti-Marciano"? Yeah right.
I notice you didn't make any case at all except an appeal to authority, but almost all human progress has been made by folks challenging the voices of entrenched authority. The best fighter either man ever knocked out in my opinion was Archie Moore, who was knocked out by Charles. Charles moved into an unlimited division and knocked out much bigger men than Robinson ever knocked out. Deal with it. "If you disagree, you are wrong. I am right, and that is all." I haven't seen anyone quote Robert Bellarmine in a while.
Yes, according to you i am both "an utter *****" and "Full of ****." But I think you'll find i've just managed to keep myself under control in appraising these fighters. Robinson is a better puncher than Charles, not by a little, by a lot, and if Robert Bellarmine agrees he is a man of good sense. That people have stooped to saying the reverse in order to artificially inflate Marciano's standing (which is not neccessary) makes me sad. I will now leave you to levy more personal insults at me and agree with each other about how wrong I am. This thread ain't for me.
-It is a shame I had to lower myself to your level. A "*****" for a "nut licker" And yes you were "full of ****" back in that last thread for attacking me for having the audacity to defend myself against McVey's constant hurl of insults and than completely denying it. -That wasn't even the argument, Choklab wasn't comparing their power and you went off for no reason. Several would question "alot" and it has nothing to do witih Marciano, but you have no interst in that argument.
I know what we are discusssing, I made the thread. I think its permissible for a slight meander particularly when you and your two chums spent so long trying to show how Moore was so devastating a heavyweight hitter that he ruined a young fella something that has never been proven by the way but hey, why let that stop anyone.? You jumped up at the word cruiser to insist Walcott was heavier than Marciano, anyone here not already know that? I just made a counter that he was heavier but considerably older, so any size advantage would be cancelled out with interest. You're a sensitive little soul aren't you?
There is nothing shameful about disagreeing with you. You really should stop a bit and think about the egoism behind that statement. I never in my life found anybody disagreeing with me about almost anything to be shameful.
-You don't seem to know what we are discussing as this has nothing do with Walcott. -I don't know what Lufcrazy knows. Nor does it matter, I disagree with his "cruiser" crtique and explained myself. -And I countered and explained how irrelevant and stupid that was in this specific scenario. Rocky was not able to avoid Walcott's punches. Had he used his supposed youth advantage and kept out of range, you might have a point, but that did not happen. -No.
"utter *****" "full of ****" Sir, I never used those terms with you or anyone else on this board. It might be wise to make certain you don't confuse posters.
I didn't confuse posters. Rather, you have confused your posts. That post was aimed at Mongoose, who called me both of those things, and if you read the thread this should be apparent.
