The world was a dark place. The long shadow of Muhammad Ali continued to preside over the minds of the people, as in his absence, misery & bitterness (with a goofy lisp) had taken hold. On a storm-surged evening, winds carrying the faint echo of gunshots, screams & sirens, with wars raging in the Middle East & the Americas, I was pushed & pulled, headlong, into an unjust world, while my mother & her doctor smoked their way through my emergence with a box of Winnie Reds. It was a traumatic day…I even cried, unusual for me.

The champion was Larry Holmes. Make of it what you will.
