Suprising. Which fights are you gentlemen talking about. Myself, i always thought Hatton the more exciting while Joe being the greater.
Hatton was in several entertaining contests, even if the two most entertaining were his defeats. I'm not sure which Calzaghe fights were all that great to watch beyond the Kessler fight. He threw a lot of punches, which I guess some people dig, but my God was he annoying to watch at times with his technique being less than stellar.
Not really mate. Joe was very exciting. Early on see the Eubank, Reid, and Shekia fights for examples. I'd suggest the Charles Brewer fight also, that was a great fight that night. Of course, there is also the wild west style brawl with Byron Mitchell, crazy! Check them out mate.
Calzaghe was the more high volume active puncher. I found his fights more entertaining sans the Hopkins fight but Hopkins was more culpable for that ugly stinker.
I found Calzaghe more exciting. Fast hands, high volume and had a tendency to stay in the pocket too much which led to him having some exciting fights. Could also put people away before his hands failed him.
Totally mate, a lot of folks prefer Hatton and I see why. He always tried to fight like Duran, which is by definition, exciting. The Kosta Tszyu fight being a case in point. But I always felt he did his best work when he actually tried to box, saving the marauding warrior Duran type stuff for short, purposeful bursts, punctuating his more orthadox work. I just felt Calazghe's all action, high tempo style was more natural with him than Hatton. But, as you say, its all just opinions and im sure their plenty different. As for Brewer, yeah mate, for sure, Brewer always gave value for money. A real pro; game, determined and dangerous. The night he beat Herol Graham for the IBF title at the Boardwalk in AC was some fight too!
Too an extent but by fighting like a man you mean, fighting without any overall plan other than, 'I want to knock this guy out or be knocked out'. Thats just dumb, and got Hatton knocked out badly a few times leading to the end of his career. Looks like you've got a few issues.
