Who was the more fearful of Tyson: Spinks or Seldon

Seldon by a mile. Spinks was actually hit by very hard and hurtful punches. Seldon was hit by air.

 

Bruce for me.I think spinks did actually make a little effort. But he was just over whelmed .Seldon just collapsed in a heap when Tyson spun a punch .

It didn't matter, anyway. Seldon did not have the chin to last long with Tyson.

Seldon did well to get a world title at all.

His durability was a major issue.

He had talent, though. Good handspeed, above average jab. Good foot movement.

Durability and probably not training as hard as he could were his two major drawbacks.

Spinks got knocked out by a COUNTER right hand. Implying he was actually trying to fight back no matter how nervous he may have looked

 

Exactly...Spinks had just thrown a right that, had it connected, would have rocked Tyson. Tyson was just too much for him though. But he was at least trying, unlike Seldon.

Pretty good question. I think Spinks, because Seldon folded before and Spinks didn't. And Spinks looked different before that fight. He looked frozen like oh sh*t what am I doing here, which was surprising for Spinks since he did fight everyone. But Tyson scared him. Spinks was a smart guy. He knew when he was in over his head. Great fighter, sometimes a certain fighter is a bad style and the other guys knows it. Spinks took the bodyshot,, so had he been hit and not been hurt he might have come out of it... But Mike was just too strong for a moving up guys. The knockout punch looked almost less than what would knock a guy cold, especially of Spinks caliber. I remember watching that punch and seeing Robin Givens jumping up and down in the crowd as Spinks fell. Good fight for Mike, but I still think Spinks was a better fighter.. He had a better win against Holmes and Qawi than Mike ever had, in my mind.

 

Seldon was more fearful of Tyson. He just laid down. It was so bad, he wasn't even invited to the postfight press conference. Everyone saw Tyson throw a punch and miss, and they saw Seldon fall down.

It was bad.

Took the money and ran.

Spinks had admitted being scared before other fights, too. He talked about being afraid of Cooney, and said he thought he could win, he just didn't know "how" he was going to do it. Once Spinks got cut, in the second round I believe, against Cooney, he figured he needed to stop giving ground to Cooney, and he got more aggressive and started fighting inside and getting out.

He said the same before Tyson, he thought he could win, he just had to figure out how. But Mike stopped him with a pretty concussive shot to the temple before Spinks could get untracked and figure out the Tyson puzzle.

Spinks was one of the best thinkers inside the ring. If one style didn't work, he'd try another. If that didn't work, he'd do something else. Some guys are just programmed to fight one way and if it isn't working, they're doomed. Ironically, Tyson was like that. If what he was doing didn't work, he was kind of doomed.

If Spinks had a chance figure Tyson out, who knows. But Mike got him early.

 

They both were scared out of their skulls. Spinks at least gave a slightly better account of himself.

 

Can you imagine handing over a 7 figure check to Bruce Seldon like the day after the fight? What in the world would you say to the guy? It'd take more effort for me to endorse the check than Seldon put forth in the fight.

But promoters have fantastic memory with that sort of thing, don't they? Career suicide and say goodbye to another reasonable sized check.

Seldon was clearly more scared and decided to quit.

Spinks gave it an honest try but was simply overwhelmed.

 

I think the Spinks being scared thing is overhyped. It looked more like he never found his rhythm or timing to me. The same thing happened to Savarese and others. Bruno II was definitely more scared, maybe more than Seldon.

 

Seldon, no doubt about that. As stated above, Spinks at least tried to make a decent fight, although he was clearly feeling fear as well. He took at least two hard blows to the body, the second one resulting in the first knockdown, afeter a vicious left hook to the chin.

But Seldon's performance was beyond pathetic. The way he threw himself to the ground (as if he'd been hit by a carbine ... lol) after Tyson's arm swept over his head, it was shameful. Even worse was to realize how he pretended to be dizzy, shaking his head after rising ....Simply pathetic.....
