How about Azumah Nelson at featherweight. Could box, was tough, 20 stoppages in 28 fights, quick on the draw. Adaptable.

He's not perfect but who is?

Excellent choice. But I'd take Sanchez - though it's close.

Thought about listing him and Sanchez together.

joe louis could not be the most complete hw,
1, he was not a hw, was a cruiserweight
2, with his poor chin he could not be it.
3, ali was more complete, maybe he did not hit as hard and he did not have the same ****nal of blows, but he was faster, bigger, stronger, smarter, he took a much better punch, he was better athlete, he had much better footwork, he had a better jab,he had better reflexes, he had much better move of head, more confiende in himself, tougher mind and better capacity to recover, ali was better

He was heavyweight champion for a then record 12 years and made 25 defences.
Louis was knocked down quite a bit, but only stopped twice, his chin was underated imo. Schmeling hit him all night before he stopped him and he was gone when he faced Rocky.

If you think Ali is more complete that's fine. Ali neglected body punching and relied on reflexes to avoid punches, for those reasons he doesn't get my vote but I'm just one vote.

Sanchez is a pretty decent choice imo.
He had incredible sangfroid in the ring.

I give it to Leonard because of his boxing skills , he also had a very good right hand , but Duran is a great fighter who had nearly everything. The way he turned his head just as a punch was about to land was exceptional.
The division has several candidates imo
Leonard,Gans,Duran,if Ike Williams had been a bit better skilled boxer he would be there and he is my number 3 all time lightweight.

Heavyweights devoid of truly complete fighters. Louis is a bit slow of foot and could be outboxed, Ali has some fundamental flaws, Holmes has some flaws, Tyson's style/height makes him awkward to rank etc. Taking a bit of a leap of faith on Tunney.

Ali had a lot more flaws than that. At any rate, he is offensively too limited to be on this list - just like Whitaker.

Leonard is indeed an excellent choice - so are Gans and Williams as well.

Yes, heavyweight lacked an all-around genius indeed. I am going to tentatively say Liston, though he was not a defensive wizard by any means. But he seems to have the least number of missing elements compared to the other heavyweight greats. Perhaps someone like Jack Johnson was more complete, but not enough footage exists to my knowledge, among other issues in evaluating fighters of extreme yore.

Flyweight is indeed another difficult choice. There is not a single great flyweight fighter I can think of that did not have at least one significant flaw.

Pasquel Perez seems fairly complete on film. He doesn't have otherworldly speed or anything, but he's fundamentally sound and heavy handed.

Under your guide lines Mc, for featherweight I pick Alexis Arguello. A tall excellent boxer, who can take a punch and was a small edition of Joe Louis in punching combinations...Arguello was one of the greatest featherweight EVER...
