excellent point. what makes it an arguement is if you watch tyson vs Michael Johnson it is typical of tyson's opponents. they just cant stand up long enough for it to be as vicious as Dempsey. But while it lasts its pretty brutal to smash a guys face the way Tyson did in that fight.

    Are you kidding?

Mike Tyson was never the same after the death of his coach. Douglas was a beast in his own right who never had the mental will to exploit his talent. Holyfield is a HOF.

    What are you smoking?

And Robinson was the GOAT, Jake La Motta fought him like an animal each time. When Tyson was overmatched, he wasn't nearly as animalistic as he was against afraid opponents. Tyson quit against Holyfield in the rematch with his insane biting. This is not about how good Tyson was, but about that characteristic of ruthlessness. I rate Monzon, LaMotta, JCC and others above Tyson simply in this one attribute. If Tyson got his ears boxed off like JCC did against Taylor, he would resign to his fate at some point in the fight. JCC was really going for the KO, after losing 9 - 10 rounds, until the last second, can't see Tyson ever doing that.

A guy that quit in multiple fights and was as mentally fragile as Tyson can't be ruthless.

Duran, Tyson, Liston in no particular order. not surprising all of these 3 greats were bullies. I think Pacquiao to a certain extent is ruthless, I know it doesn't fit the bill, but he's truly a sheep in wolf's clothing. He seems like the nicest dude, harmless little guy, but he can be an assassin in the ring. I think the Pacman is ruthless in the way he'll break a fighter down or land one punch ko's. I think against just about everyone except the Clottey fight he's been pretty ruthless.

I wasn't talking about skill. I was just talking about the intensity that they plied their craft. I honestly don't think Tyson was "Tyson" after the death of Cus. Sorry man. Stop all that "quitting" noise when Holyfield showed his billy goat lineage and the ref just watched.

Tyson was getting hit by HWs. You don't get pounded for 9-10 rounds because of human physiology. :blood JCC? That isn't to say that the fight wasn't as brutal, but to compare the performances with that disparity in size/power is a little disingenuous. Just a little.

Yea, i see your point. Maybe I see it more as excitement of ending the fight and a fighter just doing his job. But in this example, either way Mercer was a ruthless *******...he didnt earn that nickname for nothing (and one of the best boxing nicknames ever i might add). There was another Mercer fight that ended similarly to the Pegues fight, forget who he was fighting. Mercer had this dude nearly decapitated on the ropes like 3 times and kept going back for more.

terry norris had no heart? lol...ok.
