Ali wanted to quit between round in the 1st Liston fight when the linament from Liston's gloves got into his eyes and temporarily blinded him. If it were not for Angelo Dundee he WOULD hve quit. Dundee gave him a slap on the rump and told him to get the hell out there for the 5th (I believe) round. Those stupid Muslims that associated with Ali thought that Dundee had put the stuff in Ali's eyes.

And if somebody attempted to murder another person, but was prevented by the police, you will insist that that person has no murderer trait in him whatsoever. Yeah, right.

I pick Marciano. He had the greatest mental and physical intestinal fortitude I've witnessed. He just refused to be discouraged. In fairness, I once asked Gene Fullmer about some 15 or so guys that he fought. His a first response was, " They were all tough". I just think Marciano was the toughest in a sport loaded with tough guys.

1 rst would have to be the prime version of james j. jeffries-not the malnorished alfalfa farmer that johnson fought but the prime jeffries was a true ironman of boxing.rocky marciano is another, dempsey would also have to fit in with what around 80 pro fights an estimated 100 fights before he turned pro and only 1 known loss by ko and that could have been a dive, ward and gatti are close bassilo and zale are prob. close to

Well, if the murderer has linament in his eyes, just copped a bullet from Henry Cooper or was totally out of ammunition against Joe Frazier, you'd have to forgive the jury for allowing Angelo Dundee and Ali to walk FREE... as neither have any reasonable question of guilt..... only suggestion thereof.... none of which came to fruition....

    I rest my case. :good

If Ali/Clay's corner men actually listened to him and began to take off his gloves I am sure that Clay would have said no, I will go back out. There wer all kinds of rumors going around during the weeks preceding the fight about someone out to get Clay. He drew a lot of attention to the fact that he had something in his eyes but I don't think he would have missed the biggest opportunity in his career to take the championship from Liston. He was already easily outboxing him and he had talked so much trash leading up to the fight I believe that he wouldn't really have quit on the stool. And no matter, if Dundee says go back in Clay can still say he cannot see and stay there. He doesn't HAVE TO listen to his corner men. Many times he didn't as in the Foreman fight. To watch some of Ali's fights where he was hurt (Cooper, Frazier, Holmes etc.) it is a wonder anyone can say he has quit in him. I say he has NO QUIT IN HIM and stand by that statement even in this incident.
