Got into boxing because my dad liked it. As a kid my fathers favorite fighter was Marco Antonio Barrera, he had taped the Barrera Hamed fight and I remember him watching it at least 10 times. His all time favorite fighter is Alexis Arguello. His brother and my Uncle told me that my dad was in tears (literally crying) when Arguello was brutally stopped by Pryor. Thought that was odd because my dad has never been an emotional guy and I've never seen him cry.
I also got into boxing because of my dad. His two favorite fighters were Benny Leonard as a kid and Rocky Marciano as an adult.
My dad was really into boxing as a young man, before becoming a parent, in the 1970s. A Brit, he was quite a big fan [in the sense of liking rather than rating him as an outstanding talent] of then-'local hero' Richard Dunn. But of course he appreciated the very best fighters of his day such as Ali [obviously] and Duran.
