Mm. I wouldn’t say it was because he and Tommy argued, plausibly. but I think as he understood the fight the best thing he could’ve done was go Helter Skelter and stay on him like Napalm.
It’s a shame how his destiny played out. I hope his kindness reached those people deep enough to pass it on.
Lol people talk about McCall and it's true what a weird guy. I recently watched his first round ko of Oleg Maskaev and AFTER he knocked Maskaev out he was walking around the ring looking extremely upset and on the verge of tears. You think he'd be happy.
Yes both were sensitive and both had to fight their inner feelings, of not wanting to really hurt the other man. With Emile, that shockingly came blasting out in to his world.
Gerry Cooney was sensitive about letting people down in his mind. It affected his career to an extreme. He stopped boxing basically because he lost a fight. He used alcohol to cope with it. That was it for Gerry as a potential champion. It was overly sensitive because he lost to a great champion at his best, he went 13 rounds. Shouldn't have apologized at all.
Floyd Patterson, when he fought Eddie Machen on July 5 1964, Floyd had Machen hurt in round 5, he backed off realizing that Eddie had spent time in a Mental Hospital, did not want to further injure him. Patterson went on to win a unanimous decision. Floyd Patterson stated this during an interview.
Seems the further you dig into reading about Patterson the more you realise how much more you can do to be better.
