Who were some of the best heavyweight fighters that weren’t from the United States?

Campolo was pre prime when Carnera stopped him he was a skinny 224lbs relative novice he spotted Carnera 42lbs . 2 years later now 280lbs Campolo went the distance with Primo.Godoy was years short oft his peak when Campolo beat him.

 

This is still strong evidence for elite level boxing in today’s Superheavyweight scene. Primo stands up very well indeed.

 

Mike Weaver, Mike Dokes and Phil Jackson were definitely world rated when Ruddock beat them. Phil Jackson was 25-0 when they met and had recently won the IBC Heavyweight Title (granted, not one of the big 3 or even 4), 2 years later, Phil would challenge Lennox Lewis for the WBC title, so he was considered good enough to fight for the title. Mike Weaver was one year removed from fighting Pinklon Thomas for the WBC title and after he fought Ruddock, would go on to beat top 30 prospects James Pritchard and Johnny Duplooy, as well as a slightly ringworn Bert Cooper and James Smith. Mike Dokes had just given a young Evander Holyfield 10 rounds of hell a year earlier and was on a 4 bout knockout streak since, including winning the WBA Inter-Continental Title. After losing to Ruddock, Dokes went on a 9 fight winning streak, beating contenders Jesse Ferguson (fresh off a victory over Ray Mercer) and Jose Ribalta, to earn a title shot against Riddick Bowe. Granted they may not have been in their absolute prime, but these fighters were world class and were beating fellow contenders and earning title shots. That's world class in my book.

 

Mark Ant, do you make these posts just to provoke people? Your original argument was that none of the fighters Ruddock beat were anywhere near wold class. Blanket statements like these (without research) will get you into trouble. Thank-you for adding the point about Mercer giving Lewis a tough fight. It further strengthens Ferguson as a strong contender and gives Dokes' win over him that much more credibility as a contender during that time. This was a Dokes who was brutally knocked out by Ruddock a few years prior btw.

 

He would not have to, fighting is different for each fighter against whoever they fight. Wilder never beat anybody as good as Primo Carnera. And (so far) that is a fact.

You need to hold onto that before you make anymore posts. Did wilder beat anybody as good as carnera?

The guys Ortiz beat probably get beaten by Campolo and Santa, two giants Primo beat.

I mentioned Primo because he was in the middle of the pack as a non US fighter in his era.
I dont think much of him at all, poor defence ,soft chin, lacking power.Wilder would decapitate him.
