Who were some very marketable but fairly average boxers?

    Hatton was better than Benn, Eubank and Gatti, he fought far better v Floyd than Gatti did.

    Maybe 'a profile that far exceeded their actual ability' is a more accurate (though less pithy) way of putting it?

    Everyone picking on white fighters,,, lots of blacks have been overrated average fighters too.. guys like Jermain Taylor.. HBO was blowing him like he was gonna be the next great and he bottomed our fast

    Taylor had an excellent amauter pedigree and was an Olympian that beat a Legendary champion in Hopkins. He had a short prime after being bombed out by Pavlik and is clearly suffering from CTE right now. Probably not the best example since he was a world champion.

    Oh yeah, how about you leave race out of the discussion. No one is picking on white fighters or even brought up race at all except you.

    Michael Grant comes to mind. He was a tall athletic heavyweight that really did not have much of an amatuer pedigree at all but was touted to be the next great American heavyweight. Lewis pretty much destroyed him and he was never the same after that.
