By fight strategy I mean the ability to change your normal style and approach to a fight because it is going to work horribly against a given opponent, or because a different style would work amazingly well. A good example is Leonard vs Duran I and Ii. The results of those fights were 100% down to the ring strategy chosen by Leonard.

    Good

    Gene Tunney
    Ray Leonard (after Duran I)

    Bad

    Joe Louis
    Roberto Duran
    Jose Napoles

One interesting thing is that the vast majority of even great fighters had no real fight strategy at all, they fought the same way in almost every fight.

    Worst

Jersey Joe Walcott. Had brilliant skills, he just decided to walk into punches in the midst of a fight and get knocked out.

You do know that in case certain people notice this thread, it's going to spawn another Duran-Leonard debate that will last (p)ages? Is that what you really want?

So Leonard and Duran both had bad strategies in their first fight???

There was no strategy involved, it was just two guys brawling it out, comparable to Gatti-Ward I.
