I can't believe no one mentioned Ali yet... Edit: In terms of image, Liston deserves a shout, too. Guy trained to "Night Train" and that's one of the coolest songs on this or any other planet.
I kind of get the omission of Ali; he was more of a famous jester, one who created a lot of hyper energy and a circus around him. That's not really "cool" per se.

:deali was going to let someone else mention him first..I'm obviously a fan. the guy was the epitome of cool.
Ok Duodenum and Boxed Ears...this takes some courage from me but............................another favorite of mine, Jimmy Young exuded cool in the ring prefight vs george Foreman..check it out and just watch him saunter around the ring and even nodding at the fearsome Big George...like a man strolling down the sidewalk to get the morning paper greeting his next door neighbor..the same Foreman that had Norton all shaky looking down at the canvas in the ring before their fight...the same Foreman who induced similar fear, dread and apprehension in so many others...
He seemed to know exactly what to expect, and exactly what to do. He was coming off of Lyle II. After taking on Ron twice, Shavers twice, Ali, and Tiger Williams just half a dozen fights into his career, there wasn't much George could offer him in the way of intimidation. And Jimmy was a lot smarter than Denis. (Dino wasn't apparently intimidated either, but ultimately tried to slug it out with Foreman to Jerry Quarry's expressed ringside commentary bafflement, something Denis paid for.) Jimmy looked for powerful sluggers to feed on, guys like Shavers, Lyle, Foreman, Cooney, and Jeff Sims. Never accused of ducking anybody. No doubt he was disappointed that peak Liston wasn't available for him to pick on, and probably sorry he missed out on peak Tyson.
